"Land assist not available" and no power steering on 2023 Defender 130 First Edition
#41
It seems that there are (at least) two types of power steering failures. One is software related and has a temporary fix from disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. That’s what my dealer thought at first; he said the power cycle is a temporary fix and that a software upgrade is necessary for a permanent fix (not clear if the over the air Pivi updates address this; I got the sense they did not).
The second is the more serious failure of the steering rack which requires hardware replacement. That’s what I needed.
I did not notice any symptoms prior to the failure. No temporary loss that a power cycle brought back; no heavier feeling. It just died (in my driveway thankfully).
Hoping for the best for you. Next time you have it at the dealer you can ask them to confirm that you have the updated software. That issue is a known one, and the first thing my dealer checked. Good luck!
