Lawsuit over cracked windshields
Windshield #4 for me. The last one had multiple separate cracks. Ironically, the off brand one has lasted longer than the 3 prior LR ones.
Tried changing the insurance to a different carrier on my weekend play car and got absurd quotes with the rationale of "too many claims" regarding the windshield on the LR, which has been 2-3K with labor each time.

Has 3 windshields replaced on my 2020 Defender . Now all ready second windshield on my 2023. The problem is angle of the windshield. Only other car that has similar problem is Mercedes G Wagon ,
I am on my second windshield on my Defender - I had to replace the original one two months after taking delivery. My LR4 went through one windshield in the ten years we had it, and we went through at least four windshields on the D5 in five years. That one cracked so many times I lost count on the number of replacements.
Corning makes Gorilla Glass for Jeeps. I have mentioned in other posts, JLR (or dealerships or glass companies) should contact Corning and get a windshield upgrade available to sell to Defender owners. Both Corning and JLR can make some money, plus it would counter all the bad press JLR has been attracting by selling thin glass windshields. I think broken windshields are going to happen to any car, but if JLR could get a Gorilla Glass upgrade product for owners, it would turn lemons into lemonade.
Google Shatterx 30 bucks. My 2020 defender 20k miles no broken windshield. My 2022 trek defender 110 no broken windshield 22k on clock NO BROKEN WINDSHIELD!!! Off road and on road in debris ridden LA.
You’re welcome.

3 cracked windshields on the LR4 within 2 years.
2 cracked windshields on the Defender within the first 3 months. Nothing since them (15 months), not even a little mark.
Sometimes, it‘s just a matter of bad luck.

I have to giggle a little bit at this lawsuit. Ask any windshield shop... all new windshields are more fragile as companies make them thinner to save money and weight. They are also wickedly expensive to replace vs. years ago, so it is not a bigger event than the past. Go check out the Rivian forums... the windshields are a mess and super fragile, it's insane how often they need to be replaced. The angle on these adventure SUVs doesn't help... ask any Jeep Wrangler owner. I have the heated windshield and I can't imagine how painful that will be when it needs a replacement (although... living in AZ I really don't need the heated glass and I don't love the lines.
Mine broke with the Shatter X coat. Shatter X is not what it is cracked up to be, according to my personal experience with it.
I was thinking the same thing. I hate some of the silly lawfare seen in the courts these days. But this is one that I think has some merits and would hopefully encourage JLR to improve these windshields.
My 90 V8 was a demo model with 3K miles on it was delivered to me with a crack in the windshield. luckily the dealer took care of replacing it at no cost to me.
I went to the expense of having a glass protection film applied to the outside of my new windshield.
Hopefully that will help prevent a future failure.
The more vertical a windshield is the more prone they seem to breakage. The Defender windshields are pretty vertical in their angle.
Our 2021 is on windshield #3 and the 2023 I traded-in last week had windshield #4. The 2025 is still on the original windshield after one week and 900 miles.
