Default Leatherique or other cleaner

I have Oyster Windsor leather. Has anyone used Leatherique to clean / maintain this leather, or any other Windsor leather? I'm trying to settle on something, but I don't want to darken the leather or give it any kind of shine. I know many other cleaners create a shine, but I've also heard occasional reports that Leatherique can darken light leathers.

I just want to keep it supple and clean. Any recommendations welcome!

I used to use Swissvax (https://swissvax.us/products/leather-cleaner) on my ivory colored interior in an Aston Martin. Worked very well with no perceptible change in the color of the leather.

+ 1 for Leatherique. Leatherique actually has two products, One product is for hydration/restoration and the other product is a Leather cleaner. Google or YouTube videos on proper application. Great products and has a great following in the Porsche forums. Proper leatherique application is not just a wipe on wipe off.

it goes something like this.

1. Clean with Leatherique cleaner (spray on wipe off)
2. Apply Leatherique on a hot day with the car parked outside windows rolled up.. Apply lavishly with a moist sponge. Its thicker with the consistency of warm honey.
3. Let it bake in the heat of the day with windows rolled up (@ 4 hrs) during this time Leatherique hydrates the leather and pulls oils and salts out of the leather and onto the surface.
4. after 4 hrs in hot temp use the cleaner again with a moist microfiber towel and wipe off all surface residue ( Oils, salts and dirt). You will be amazed at what filth comes out of your leather.
5 repeat as needed. severely neglected leather might need multiple treatments.

Again google or YouTube videos on Leatherique proper application.

Leatherique can be used for weekly maintenance but it is really designed for leather restoration on leather that has been neglected for a long long time. I have had great luck with Chemical Guys Leather maintenance products for my ongoing upkept leather maintenance.

I have used Leatherique on cream colored leather and did not notice darkening of the leather after application has been applied and allowed to soak in and then cleaned.
Hope this helps.

This is highly subjective and blabblah, but after tons of cars, tons of leather, here's what I do.

NoteI have several newer cars, and several older cars. Different regimens for each. New stuff = Leather Masters Cleaner & Leather conditioner. Old stuff gets Leatherique.

NEWER CARS w/ GOOD LEATHER (ie Windsor) -- use Leather Masters
  • I've found new cars with clean and soft leather simply do not need leatherique. It's unnecessarily greasy and annoying to apply. Also you apply it in the opposite manner of most leather clean/condition systems... ie usually you clean then condition. With leatherique, you lather on the rejuvenating oil, which forces impurities to surface, THEN clean it. I suspect many get this wrong.
  • Instead, on newer cars, I start from new (or if not new, start of my ownership) with a clean and condition every 3-4 months with cleaner and leather conditioner from Leather Masters.
  • Leather masters is expensive... but works great.
  • For example. on my Defender, I noticed the trim across the top of the dash was getting a little "hard" to the touch after a year of being parked around outdoors, and wrinkled... a few treatments with leather masters conditioner and it's soft now as the door tops.

OLD CARS / CARS W/ DIRTY OR DRIED OUT LEATHER
  • This is where I use leatherique... works great. Park in sun, do when warm. Leatherique's rejuvenator is fairly non-good and useless in cold temps btw, which is apparent if you read lots online about it.
  • I do this either once or twice annually with monthly or quarterly wipedown with damp rag for dust/dirt.
  • Then once the leather gets to point where it's softer, and in good shape, I switch to the Leather Masters regimen every couple months.
  • For old / classic / cars I store offsite, they get leatherique once a year.
Note, if you're working with anything with crappy leather.. or cheap low grade coated leather, just use parts store stuff or griots. So for example, the new Bronco w/ leather...
