Range Rover is not dog friendly, and RR tells you to use the app. If you live in a city and it works all the time, maybe, but it will just shut off and you don't know it till you get back to your RR. If you live in the mountains the app does not work it is always looking for the car.
Why can't RR come up with a watch (like the RR Sport watch) that you can set for how long you want the car to run and you would be able to lock the car while you run for a rest area break. Also why don't they come up with something for our fur babies that would let us run our RR with the air running the doors locked and a temperature alarm that would call your phone and or honk and turn the auto back on if the temp changed from what you had it set at. My GMC you can lock with air on and it will run for 1 hour before it turns off. Why can't RR do the same thing?

This is what we do:

Exit vehicle with key fob in hand, engine running and driver window down

Close door

Reach through window and hit the lock button

Flip the auto window up and pull arm out of the way.

Vehicle is locked and running.

Sucks to have to do it this way but honestly it is not hard and it works.

Exactly how I do it in the RR and Defender.

You guys heard it here from me. This will keep the engine running on the locked vehicle. Turn engine on, leave vehicle and lock the vehicle from the lock button in the passenger side. It works all the time. No worries!

I'm adding a +1 to the previous comment about using the Land Rover App to simply set the temp and start it up remotely when locked. Has worked well here in our tests in the recent cold/snowy conditions here in Colorado. We're setting the temps UP to preheat the vehicle - but I don't imagine there's any reason why setting the temp colder won't work. I did note there appears to be a 30 minute time limit on the remote start program in the APP but that doesn't seem unreasonable. Of course I have haven't tried it also leaving a window cracked for pups in the car but aside from the remote app giving me a warning I can't imagine it'll pose a problem.

It shuts off after 30min either way. Left it idling the other day in my hunting lease to keep my beverages cold in the console. 30min in and it shut down.
