Locking Car With Engine Running
Range Rover is not dog friendly, and RR tells you to use the app. If you live in a city and it works all the time, maybe, but it will just shut off and you don't know it till you get back to your RR. If you live in the mountains the app does not work it is always looking for the car.
Why can't RR come up with a watch (like the RR Sport watch) that you can set for how long you want the car to run and you would be able to lock the car while you run for a rest area break. Also why don't they come up with something for our fur babies that would let us run our RR with the air running the doors locked and a temperature alarm that would call your phone and or honk and turn the auto back on if the temp changed from what you had it set at. My GMC you can lock with air on and it will run for 1 hour before it turns off. Why can't RR do the same thing?

This is what we do:
Exit vehicle with key fob in hand, engine running and driver window down
Close door
Reach through window and hit the lock button
Flip the auto window up and pull arm out of the way.
Vehicle is locked and running.
Sucks to have to do it this way but honestly it is not hard and it works.

You guys heard it here from me. This will keep the engine running on the locked vehicle. Turn engine on, leave vehicle and lock the vehicle from the lock button in the passenger side. It works all the time. No worries!
I'm adding a +1 to the previous comment about using the Land Rover App to simply set the temp and start it up remotely when locked. Has worked well here in our tests in the recent cold/snowy conditions here in Colorado. We're setting the temps UP to preheat the vehicle - but I don't imagine there's any reason why setting the temp colder won't work. I did note there appears to be a 30 minute time limit on the remote start program in the APP but that doesn't seem unreasonable. Of course I have haven't tried it also leaving a window cracked for pups in the car but aside from the remote app giving me a warning I can't imagine it'll pose a problem.

Reviving this to see if anyone has come up with anything new on this topic:
Hello, I know that Land Rover does not allow locking the car after exiting while keeping the engine running. There are some awkward workarounds, like exiting the car with the window down, then reaching in to activate Auto Window Up, but then you have to use the physical key to unlock the door. You can also use the App to restart the car once you exit, but that seems time-consuming and times out. I have not tried the locking from passenger side button as one commenter stated.
I have not been able to find an easy way to just exit the car while the engine is running and use the KeyFob or Door Handle "Touch" to lock the car. (Note: this is possible on all Jeep Vehicles). I suspect this is a EU type regulation for pollution and/or safety thing...
I have seen some older posts asking about this several years ago.
Has anyone found a workaround for this?
Does anyone know if, by installing a Compustar Alarm or another brand, this can be achieved?

As someone mentioned the easiest way to do this is to turn off the car, exit and (auto) lock, then use the app to remote start the car using the Climate function. It will run for up to 30 minutes. Others have mentioned this carries some risk - the car could shut down or air conditioning could turn to heat, one person said they heard about dogs being killed inside a hot car. I live in SC and have done this a few times for short windows and its worked fine. Its important to have adequate cell reception. I keep the app open in my hand.
