Thanks Matty,

Your instructions were very clear and helpful. I was able to download the Map Downloader App and get the file onto a USB. However, I am having troubles getting the car to successfully upload. Will try again tomorrow.

Two lessons: For Windows, I needed to configure my Microsoft Windows 11 to allow installation of non-Microsoft Store apps. I also had to downsize my thumb drive from a 64 GB to a 32 GB to allow for FAT32 formatting (as noted previously in this thread).

My guess is that the thumb drive is formatted with an incompatible file system - exFAT or NTFS - while it needs to be formatted with FAT32 to be read by Pivi Pro. Thumb drives 64 GB or larger - pretty much all of them these days - may need to be partitioned in smaller drives and formatted with FAT32 before you can download the new map files and transfer them to the car via the USB drive.

I would agree with Umberto, check how you have formatted your card, I used a 64gb USB A thumb drive and I let the map programme format the drive on my Mac. When you plug it into the car it should pop up after a short while and ask whether you want to install the updated maps.

Huge thank you @Matty79

I downloaded the map downloader from the link that you provided. Installed it. Then entered the VIN in the Lad Rover Map update page and it opened the application and downloaded the maps. I was also able to update the maps on the Defender.

It looks like here.com is their content provider for the maps and Land Rover's link from their main page is going to a stale location. I reported this on Twitter to @LandRoverUSA, got some generic answer. If enough people complain they should be able to fix the link. At this moment, a regular user cannot update the maps.

Cheers!

Thanks for the information. We have a newly delivered Range Rover that needed map update. I used the downloader app and downloaded to a thumb drive. There is no specific instructions in the owner's manual where/how to install update to the vehicle. We have a new Defender on order that's to arrive in a few weeks. Where, on the Defender, are you supposed to connect to download map update?

Just in case anyone is still having a problem with uploading map updates via a USB stick even after using the proper procedure, see this thread in which an owner had to get his nav unit replaced under warranty to address the issue.

Since I'm experiencing the inability to use built-in navigation on my 2021 D90 and also can't update the maps via a USB stick, I'm going to bring it into my dealer to see if/how they can fix it before the factory warranty expires in a few months.

Does this apply for North America/US?
