Hi guys, got a weird quirk on my nearly 3 year old defender 90-
has anyone else had a fault where the media unit randomly either mutes the radio or deselects the current source and just displays no source and won't play music / cuts off phone calls?
mine does it very intermittently sometimes not for hours, sometimes every hour or so making it hard for the dealer to identify, the cure i've found is change to another source fm or mw etc and then change back, its been in multiple times and just had the apparently very expensive media unit changed but its still faulting. Cheers
Mine does it fairly frequently. It seems to be positional related to interference from alarm systems, railway signaling gear and traffic reporting systems. They all use the same frequency band that wifi and bluetooth use. The fix, which was mysteriously hard to find, turned out to be simple for me. While the system will not be immune to outside influences, I find I can quickly bring my audio back. First off touch the house symbol on the lower left while in CarPlay. It goes to the Pivi Home Screen. on the right you will see what used to be playing in your entertainment system. The speaker will have a line through it and it will be paused. Touch the speaker and un-pause it. You would think, that after 5 years they may have fixed this, or at least made the process simpler. Unfortunately they pay virtually no attention to the electrical defects in the vehicle and instead concentrate on Puddle Lights and Colored Calipers.
Thanks v much for the detailed reply, i'll give that a try next time it does it - although i've a feeling mine would be an extra couple of button presses after having to re select its source, not the end of the world but still a bit annoying. thanks again.
I found I didn't have to re-select the source when I found that this situation was displayed on the home page. It would be cool if it was predictable. In my case, Chase Bank and the Post Office are the worst for making my system go wonky. I think the Post Office's little handheld communication system is partially to blame, low bidder and all.
