Default Milltek on P400

I love my new Defender, but coming from a Macan GTS, it's just too quiet (even my wife said it was too quiet). I been searching the internet for some sounds bites, and from what I heard and read, I thought the non-resonated version might be too loud and too much drone. I couldn't find a sound clip or and feedback for a 6 cyl Defender 110 but on a 8 cyl Defender thread, someone mentioned they installed the resonated version and were happy. They said it probably could have been a bit louder, but a good compromise and more enjoyable than the non-resonated version as a daily driver.

I took the plunge and ordered a resonated Milltek and it arrived yesterday. I installed it today and I am happy. A slight rumble at idle and I don't hear any drone at speed. I'd say maybe a touch more tone than a stock BMW but a bit still quieter than my Macan GTS with the exhaust in sport mode. I'd describe it as you know it's there, but it's not in your face and extremely enjoyable (if you like to hear some exhaust note and I know not everybody does).

They had a sale going so I saved 10% and no charge for shipping.

Where did you purchase your exhaust, and what model number? Just visited their website and found they don’t sell direct, and also saw many versions. Just curious which one you installed. Would love just a touch more exhaust note.

I bought PART # SSXLR100 which is the Resonated Cat Back with GT90 Polished Tips - the polished tips are the cheapest option of the 4 tip choices.

This is a cut and paste of the email I received from Milltek:

You can actually purchase directly from our US website and we ship right out of TN. I have sent the link below. We are currently running a 10% off Show Sale and it will be factored into the price you see on the website. Let me know if you have any questions.

I’m also running resonated milltek on a P400 but a D90 and coming from a Cayenne GTS.

The drone in 8th gear at highway speed is unbearable, I personally wouldn’t recommend this system for that reason alone. Since install I have to run in sport mode and downshift to 7th on all highways.

I have a 110 P400 and NO noticeable drone in high gear on the expressway. I did a few tests:
In regular mode (D)
Sport mode (S)
Dynamic mode (D)
Dynamic mode (S)

Looking at the part numbers between the P400 90 and P400 110, they both use the same axle pipe, rear silencer, outlet pipes and tips. The 90 uses a smaller resonator to fit with the shorter wheelbase. Yours has to be louder too.

Tested the same modes as well, issue still exists throughout, very possibly a D90 specific problem. However others on the forum have complained about drone w Milltek systems. I believe it stems from the OPF versioning which is why they created a NAS Non OPF v8 kit.

It’s a shame too bc I generally like the exhaust and the note is great in Dynamic + Sport mode until you hold about 1.5k - 2.5k RPMs.

I'd bet the resonator is just too small (short) to cancel the drone on a 90. It's a shame they didn't use the same resonator as the 110 and shorten the axle pipe - perhaps there isn't enough room for the longer resonator on the 90?
So far, I am happy with the resonated version on a 110.

I even turned the radio off to make sure I could listen for droning.

Well, if nothing else, this confirmed my decision the that non-resonated version would NOT be a good choice.

Hmm, sounds like not an issue on the 90 v8. Been looking at these. Have a special edition/ all rear cerokoted black.

hmm maybe I’ll just buy a new resonator and have it installed. I know others had success after they purchased the non res version and bought a non milltek res and installed it.

I appreciate the thoughts and glad you are happy with your purchase! Amazing how dynamic mode transforms the P400 huh?

You may want to call Milltek (the brand mgr's name and number are above in this thread) and ask him how long the 110 resonator is and see if you could fit it by cutting the axle pipe. I am not sure what the undercarriage of the 90 looks like compared to the 110. If I get a minute tomorrow, I can try to slide under my rig and measure it, but they will know for sure. The part number MSRR67.

As I go further down this rabbit hole, here's another tidbit - from the website, the 110 3.0 only lists OPF/GPF equipped vehicles while the 90 3.0 lists OPF/GFP and non-OPF/GPF. Does the 110 get the OPF/GPF version and that also reduces the drone? The only difference between the 110 and 90 3.0 on the US website is the resonator. I am so freaking confused - but happy!

And yes, Dynamic Mode is sweet. I'd love to have it default to DM every time I start the vehicle without having to request it each time.
