Default Milltek Resonated Exhuast - P400

Hi All -

I've searched around quite a bit and haven't found much on the resonated Milltek exhaust, seems most comments are regarding the non-resonated version. I would like to upgrade the exhaust on my D90 P400 but don't want to deal with the highway drone of a non-resonated exhaust which leaves me with two questions:

1. Has anyone heard the resonated Milltek exhaust on a P400 and can confirm it's louder than the stock system?
2. Can I expect any incremental performance gain?

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

Performance gain in what way? Like when you track it at Laguna Seca or take it to Moab. I guess the answer would be no in either case.

If I had to "chime in" here... I've looked at exhausts quite exhaustively for my P400.

The one I've earmarked to buy is the New Defender Mods version -- it's 1500 bucks ish plus shipping, and it's really not much more than a rear resonator delete. Based on what I've read, and owners I've spoken to in messages, it's good - gives a nice high pitched Italian tuned Inline 6 sound -- and doesn't drone. My sole hesitation is that I haven't heard it here, in the US, in person...

Milltek on the other hand... no disrespect to their product but I've crossed it off my list. Anecdotally, what I'd say is that ppl here (on this board) that have bought it, all seem to be selling it. Ie - comes up for sale a few months later with a comment like "my wife didn't like it" or "the car is too loud now". Which basically means they hate it and are trying to unload it.

So -- definitely talk to ppl who have Milltek on a P400. There are also 2 versions, an EU version (OPF ?) and a US version (non OPF, I really don't know though) which further confuses things and some are blaming that as the issue. I would not go into this expecting any actual performance gain btw.

Thank you very much for the thoughtful response. I’ll try and find some folks who have it installed; I agree, when I searched I found a few of the classified ads but resigned to the fact it was all folks without a resonated system. I’m going to give Milltek a call and see if they have any clips of the resonated system on a P400 bc all the clips I’ve seen are non-resonated, as you might expect.

Thanks again.

You may want to check out this thread and ask @Ehloo if he still has it and likes it.

I agree with everything you've said. My only hesitation is the price for new defender mods' setup. Its essentially hacking off the stock resonator and adding some piping. They did the work/research etc and should be paid for it... but Its at least $500 too much for what it is I think. I see you're in the US, just out of curiosity have you gotten a price quote or anything on total cost shipped to the USA?

@starbai I first became aware of the New Defender Mod version watching a YT video some time back of the white lifted Defender rock climbing in Colorado. The shipping quote I got was around $350 US dollars to my door in Portland, Or. That was back in June this year I believe. I've paid less for a full custom exhaust in my past vehicles. I'm on sabbatical now and I'm thinking about going to a couple of custom exhaust shops I've used in the past that use high grade stainless steel and mandrel bending to get a quote from them. I'm still a bit hesitant on this as I don't want to change the sound too much where it's an everyone is looking at you rig. (I must be getting old!)

you rang…

i have had a Miltek non resonated p400 exhaust and found it to be too loud. I added my own aftermarket resonator from vibrant and the tone and volume was perfect.

it is definitely louder than the stock system and the tone completely changes

Miltek systems are all modular. You can buy the resonator or the straight pipe and interchange somewhat easily. they just clamp to the rest of the system

i thought i saw my old p400 system on the classified not too long ago for fairly cheap.

Yep, that was me selling your old exhaust. It’s still on my p400 and it sounds amazing yes, my wife hated it but doesn’t bother her at all anymore. Having a new baby and going through a large house renovation seems to shift focus elsewhere

Happy to send video clips to anyone interested. I’m on pat leave for another 10 days.

cheers.

Thank you, Slates! I would love to see/hear a video clip if you have one available.
