Model 2023 - Production and delivery date
My 2023.5 110 X is waiting for a boat. Build date 11/25. The updated order sheet shows that the Meridian *surround* system was deleted. Instead I have the Meridian *sound* system and a $450 credit. I believe this means I will get a 400W amp instead of 700W, and 10 speakers instead of 14. Kind of a bummer. i like my music but admittedly listen to more podcasts these days than anything else. I hope the base system at least sounds "above average" to "very good" to most people's ears.
I seem to have everything else including the 11" screen, clear sight, interactive driver display, HUD.
I can't tell from the build sheet if I will have all the usb ports and whatnot but I'm expecting to get blanks. Hope to see the car by January end.

I just received my "updated" build sheet for MY 2023.5 110 X and it too is missing the Premium Meridian Sound System. This is a real disappointment and even asked the dealer if this is something which could be retrofitted in the future and their response was no.
If anyone else could chime in and let me know retrofit statement is true, it would be greatly appreciated.
Otherwise I guess I could have a premium sound installer give me a quote on a better sound solution, but the $450 credit JLR gave, won't even come close.

I too would like to know what the real difference in sound quality.
I assume the system difference is 11 vs. 14 speakers and 400W vs. 700W amplification. If that is the case, it has to be fairly significant.
If anyone has heard both of these systems and would give their opinion that would be greatly appreciated.

I had a long reply typed out but forum logged me out…
Here’s my take on this from an audiophile-lite/musician’s perspective… I researched this heavily before buying my (off the lot) 2020 110 which came with the 400w Meridian.
some notes from my research:
- both 400w and 700w use same speakers, with an extra 4(?) speakers in the 700w providing the “surround” emulation. Per Facebook, this may also contribute to more resonance problems with rattles.
- both systems rattle, but as mentioned above 700w may be slightly more susceptible due to larger speaker count
- I’ve read reports that the speakers are barely capable of handling the 400w in the mid system, not sure how they’d hold up over time to the 700w
- neither system seems to really “wow” people.
My own thoughts… I think it’s “good enough” to be satisfied without feeling the need to sink an additional 5-10k into a 3rd party system. I will likely install some acoustic foam to help with resonance and tighten bass. Soundscape is alright as well, no complaints there.
im not sure where the complaints on the 400w being “awful” are coming from. It’s certainly not a breath taking system but it’s good in its own right. Gets the job done. I’m thinking maybe they used different speakers in later model years as parts dried up? No clue, but I certainly wouldn’t describe mine as awful.
is it the McIntosh system found in the grand Cherokee overland? No. But it’s better than many OEM systems I have heard. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with the 400w, assuming they use the same parts as they did in 2020.

Another thing which has me thinking...These 110 X models will be somewhat of a unicorn when it comes to the sound system, since the standard sound system cannot be selected under the X model.
Makes me wonder if resell value will be an issue, since 99% of X models have the premium sound systems.
I have mixed feelings on what to do and might be overthinking as I tend to do
