Model 2023 - Production and delivery date
Apologies if there's already a thread for this, but I was wondering if the folks ordering and taking delivery of their defenders right now are paying dealer markups. I have (what I believe to be) a close relationship with my local JLR dealer in Bellevue, WA. Having purchased a few cars from them and sent them a fair bit of new business, I'm fairly confident that they value the relationship and are honest with me. That said, they're now imposing a minimum (minimum!!) $10K markup on all Defender factory orders, with markups on any V8 currently quoted at $30K. Is it the same elsewhere in the country, or is this a Pacific Northwest problem?
From what I have gathered, many who are now receiving the vehicle ordered back in summer 2021 and markups were not standard. However now it’s different, it seems most will have a markup… and if they don’t, there’s a sizable queue of folks in line for an allocation who will be waiting a long time.

Land Rover Portland is doing 7% over MSRP.
Even if you found a dealer at MSRP... you can't buy as you will violate the out of region dealer rule. Everyone that thinks that this is temporary don't know what they are saying. Allocations are non-existent. Anything you hear is people backing out last minute. Landrover have demand a mile long... I submitted a deposit last August and finally received my allocation for a August delivery.
Everything is temporary
My sales advisor at JLR Bellevue gave me a speech about how new Defenders are an "investment" because they "only go up in value".
Absurdities are often interpreted as rational and permanent when observed in the present. As supply chain bottlenecks ease (and manufacturing capacity normalizes), the value of new and used cars will resolve lower. According to dealer inventory data, this is already beginning to happen. It wont happen in unison for all manufacturers and in all markets, but it will happen.

I reserved one of the defenders that was allocated to my local JLR dealership. I am in South Louisiana. When I put down a deposit to have the first right to purchase, I was told it will have $2k markup on it but nothing more. I am suppose to take delivery Friday 02/04, we shall see if that will be the case. As I read this forum, the more nervous I get. 😬
