I happened to look today and my local dealer has 36 Defenders in stock. In the past couple years there were never any, often times they would not even allow test drives. Prices were marked up over MSRP, as they were everywhere. Now they have six 2023 90's sitting all with 3K-4K discounts and a boat-load of 110's and 130's. Is it even necessary to order one and wait anymore? I get it if you want a very specific vehicle, but there is bound to be one close in spec you could walk out with today and possibly with a small dicount off MSRP as well...

I wanted a 90S with most of the off road options. Nothing even remotely close was available in the NY Tri State area.

Wow. When I ordered mine in early September I was basing what my trade would be in three to four months based on the appraised value in September.

Now over a half year later (never thought it would be this long) they also have Defenders on the lot. When I ordered mine they had one 90 and it was already sold.

My 90 is still another month out. I went to the dealer to get my trade appraised again. It’s paid off and I like to know what numbers I’m looking at. My 90 was MSRP. My trade came in over 15k less than it was in September! I know the used car market is crashing. But damn. I’ve flipped vehicles the past 3-4 years doing ok (meaning a loss that I could stomach). Realizing vehicles are a depreciating asset… but the amount it dropped in this short amount of time has me thinking.

I might just pass on this 90. Yes I’d lose my 1K deposit but it wouldn’t be close to the amount I’d lose on my trade going at MSRP on the 90. I can sustain a loss… flipping vehicles has that trait. But I have never seen it at this level with used car prices dropping that much. Plus inventories as you stated are up and I’ve seen that here as well. The Toyota dealer close by has about a dozen Tundras sitting on the lot.

I may be biased because I am buying a 90, but there are a lot fewer of them compared to 110’s. That may impact resale.

They are far less desirable though and take longer to sale. I say all that and I love the D90. It’s just not practical for most folks.

Is there anyway to track shipment (mine has been built) other than getting this info from the dealer?
