Interesting. i dislike immensely "specialty tires" that are developed between car and tire manufacturers. Is this specific to the 19" wheels? Is there a better option?
This is good info. Does the air suspension limit the ability to have a lift installed? yes, i know ive said it wont go off-road... What is LR's reason for the air suspension? i know many brands use it for load leveling...
IMO, and oddly enough, in Land Rovers it is actually easier to install a lift with the air suspension, when compared to coil suspensions. You just buy the lift rods, pop the old ones out and install the new ones. There is a stick thread on lifts right on top of the Forum page. The air suspension is to allow more clearance when off-roading without sacrificing drivability on road when you do not need the additional clearance and would rather not drive a big top heavy boat lumbering from one corner to the other. I even believe that at certain high speeds (70mph or 80mph plus) the Defender with air suspension will squat a bit to increase stability (can't confirm that though).
Lose the 19" and get 18". Much better and a smarter choice. Two very nice OEM rim options at no cost on the S
Oodles of tire choices in all types in 18".
Go 19" and you get to choose from the 3 LR offerings for on-road and off. None are any good. LR seem to be the only manufacturer using these oddball rims. No other options.
Many very helpful responses. Couple things to respond to,
1. ive looked at used and can buy more of what i want for the same or less money.
2. i want 4 doors. i dont care about the power as long as it can get out of its own way. i have other cars that have power. the LR will be driven mostly in town, maybe on a trip here or there. the worst conditions it will see will probably be snow and that is mostly if i drive it to mountains or something in the winter. i will not take it rock crawling, etc. i might tow a small trailer. i do not own anything that requires towing and if i did i have a suburban that would do the job.
unlike some of you, i drive mostly black cars and always have. i totally appreciate that others are tired of it but i just love it on anything. to me, all black makes the crappiest looking are look decent!
Here is my initial attempt at a build:
I would switch to 18" or 20" wheels. The oddball 19" size leaves you with very few tire options.
FWIW, if you think about reselling in the near future, you should consider adding the air suspension. When I was searching for mine, all the sales people I came across told me the ones in coils were collecting dust in the lots.
If I had a "do over", I would have ordered the 110-SE and upgraded the items I wanted. Would have had a much better build, proper colors (white roof), and what I wanted for no more $$. But I fell for an over-order. Don't get me wrong, LOVE my 110 - I just think some things are overrated by the sales team to get better commission $'s.
I think you're going to get many different opinions on this, but I'll give mine.
options I have that I don't like
- roof rack - too much noise so I took it off
I have the same reservations about it, but we heed to haul big flat stuff in the city often enough so I'm considering buying it; just wondering - was it a 3 person job like instructions here say, or you can get away with two? Did you get rid of it, or are you putting it on for long trail runs?

I wonder if someone in this thread can answer - I'm considering the snorkel because of a lot of fine dust on trails I run, does the snorkel do a good job on filtering that out?

I did it with one person by stringing it up from the rafters of my carport with some tie-down straps. I can store it there and back under it and lower it down for installation when needed.
so im getting feedback from a dealer that the 4 cylinders cant be ordered currently? what say ye braintrust?
Typically dealers get allocations and will steer you towards what is more readily available to them. I believe if u order a 6cyl, currently you will get it sooner. But i believe u can order a 4 cylinder, it will just take a lot longer to get.
