New to forum - 2 stupid Explorer pack questions
You raise a great point! And you have IMPECCABLE taste in color.
the side bag just seems a little useless and trying to hard. Short of some fish, muddy sneakers, or roadkill I'm not sure what I would put in it that couldn't get tossed in back.
I would use the ladder a lot and felt like it's less to be hanging off the side. This is going to be my DD for 5 out of 7 days.
But you may have just sold me on leaving the bag and adding the ladder!!
beautiful photos! Thanks!
P.S. sincerely interested in your use case for the lunch box?

So I had contemplated usefulness of the lunchbox as well. But it’s actually perfect for recovery gear. And I also thought it might be a magnet for break-in, but living in SF with literally the worst crime on the planet now, it has been fine. It can also serve to hold basic survival gear. You never know when you’ll get into a sticky situation (earthquake for us). In the back I always have a bag with gear to get by 3-days. Food, water, compass, knife, shovel etc., but it doesn’t always fit in a compact space (bag in the boot.) So over flow goods get squeezed into the lunchbox. I personally love the darn thing. And have ignored some of the online flak I’ve seen. But totally get your perspective.
Also, the ladder is great, use it all the time and it’s an engineering marvel. It’s brilliant is extremely high quality.

3/4" Hole saw
The ladder is really useful.
Establishing the high ground to ward off errant Broncos.
They're fun on four wheels.

@GavinC - I've written it before: that's THE best color combo on Defenders. Love it with envy. And yeah - you are dead on, brother. Measure as many times as you have the patience for and then pucker up... I was more fearless with my trim drilling. I bought two trim pieces so if I F'd it up or wanted to go back, I was good. I got the pucker when drilling for the rivnut in the frickin' body of the truck underneath! I had to put in a mounting point that didn't match that pattern.
Sorry for reviving an old thread. Trying to find an answer. Does the explorer pack include the ladder? I thought it did when I did my first build years ago, but now when I am doing a new build on a 110 X-Dynamic SE to place an order I don't see it included in the explorer pack.
Nope don't think so (been awhile since I ordered but..) Explorer Pack should be something like this:
Raised Air Intake
Wheel Arch Protection (the wider black plastic fender flares)
Front & Rear Classic Mudflaps
Exterior Side Mounted Gear Carrier
Expedition Rack
Rear Mounted Spare Wheel Cover
I think that these are "upgrades" and not included in the actual Explorer Pack:
Side Ladder
Front Undershield
A Frame Protection Bar on Front
Side Steps
Raised Air Intake
Wheel Arch Protection (the wider black plastic fender flares)
Front & Rear Classic Mudflaps
Exterior Side Mounted Gear Carrier
Expedition Rack
Rear Mounted Spare Wheel Cover

Talk to your dealer, for me he showed me what accessories could be added from factory for my order. Some of those can also be port installed. The rest are dealer ordered in their parts department.
