Default New V8, software updates, wheels/tires

So I replaced my totaled 2025.5 P400 with a leftover 2025 V8, which was heavily discounted. I picked it up last Friday, and was unable to determine what software version it had. Last night, it updated to 4.3.1. My P400 had previously updated to 4.4.1(?). I’ve noticed some of the old bugs are present in the new one (random map zooming in and out on CarPlay).

Does anyone know how long I need to wait to get to the latest version? I’m annoyed at the step backwards, however unavoidable. Is there a way to force the process along?

Also, the V8 came with 22’s and contis, and I’m contemplating getting a set of 20’s and all terrain tires. Any suggestions/caveats about wheel fitment, tire size, etc?

on the bright side, I guess I dodged the DCDC converter failure.

on the bad side, 4 days in I need a windshield replaced.

Don

You should not have any issues going down to 20's and sorry to hear about your windshield. Yours lasted 4 days, mine needed one on day 2 lol...Congrats on your new ride.

If you're interested in stock 20" wheels with exactly those tires and don't mind waiting a few months, mine are 5 days old today and I'll be selling them once my octa replicas show up.

Last update I did basically bricked my wife's V8 so I've been pretty reluctant to do any more updates for a while!! We've got those 20's on ours and love them. IMHO 22"s just don't look right on a Defender!!

wrt your mention of the DC-DC converter issue, my understanding is the V8 models do not have that 48V system. The 5.0 is a beast! Congrats on the new ride!

You'll be able to fit any tire that is less than a 32.6" diameter. For 20" wheels, you can go the OEM sizes of 255/60R20, or 275/55R20, which has plenty of options. You can go up to a 265/60R20 as well, but they'll just barley fit.

As for the update, you won't see the software version you're on until you get the next update. Updates are sent in batches, so you might get an update soon, or it might take a couple months. I know one of the latest updates was bricking the V8s, but I think they have a fix for it.

20s are the best from the ride quality and durability point of view. 255/60 R20 if you want it slim, or 275/55 R20 which will also look better. Both will be a perfect fit.

Here's the comparison - https://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Tire...0R20/275-55R20
