Hi, nice tires. I am looking for new tires , how do you like the tires after about a year? Do you find you get good snow traction, I don’t feel safe on OEM goodyears in snow and after two years now I loose traction. Do you air the tires down in the winter? If yes what psi are you running back and front tires?
Thanks
Yes, I still like them after a year plus, and the tread wear is looking good. They have been good enough in the snow for Seattle, but I've not had a chance this winter to get them in any really deep stuff, so I have not aired down at all. On the highway and in the rain, they have been stellar in terms of noise, comfort, and road contact. I am 100% solid on the choice of Passenger vs Truck tires on this vehicle if mostly driving on the highway. I'm still having first-time passengers comment on how great the vehicle feels on the highway.
Toyo AT3 265/70 R18. No lift rods. Initially rubbed at full lock in access mode but it was likely the nubs on the new tires. No rubbing shortly there after.
Just want to see if anyone has done any of the combinations of tire and wheels listed below. I currently have a 2021 P400 SE and am looking to upgrade my tires to a better off-road capable set
Current;
Wheel: 20" Style 5098, 5 spoke, Silver rims, ET +41.5
Tire: 255/60 R20 Goodyear Wrangler AT Adventure
Size: Height - 32"; Width - 10"
I am considering either
Wheel: EVO Corse Dakarzero White (5x120) ET+20
Tire: Either Falken Wildpeak AT3W LT275/65R18; Load E; Height 32.1", Width 10.7"
or Falken Wildpeak AT3W LT265/70R18 Load E; Height 32.9", Width 10.7"
Wheel: Redbourne Alston Gloss White ET+25 Tire: Either Falken Wildpeak AT3W LT275/65R18; Load E; Height 32.1", Width 10.7"
or Falken Wildpeak AT3W LT265/70R18 Load E; Height 32.9", Width 10.7"
I am pretty sure the LT275/65R18 wildpeaks will fit just fine. Less confidant about LT265/70R18's. If anyone has any insight please let me know
I ended up going with Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT in 275/55/20 - XL load rating. Here are some before and after shots. Here are the Pirelli All-Seasons before I took it over to the tire shop. These have just over 13k miles on them and have been rotated once. They're really not bad tires at all if you're going to be on the pavement all the time. They're super quiet, but also, in 13k miles I've had two flats already. One was no fault of any tire to be fair. Hit a bolt at 75 MPH on the highway but luckily it was pluggable. The other time was a puncture from a short roofing nail that went completely through a tread block and caused a leak. I mean I guess that could happen to any tire, but seems unlikely on a tougher all terrain. Anyway. I prefer Michelin LTX M/S 2 tires for street tires, but these are still good. Here are the old ones:
And here are the after shots. Again, Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT in 275/55/20 XL load rating:
Here are few shots of the wheels turned to give an idea on clearance on these. I haven't noticed any rubbing. Can't see anything that indicates they are rubbing and it looks like decent clearance front and back. I have not looked in access height because I never use that but I'm assuming it's going to be OK. 255/60/20 is a 32 inch tire and 275/55/20 is only ten MM wider and essentially the same height (31.9 to be exact, but on these Mickey Thompson tires they are like 32.2 actually).
Finally, since I know I really wanted this information and couldn't find decent clips of it anywhere, I have some video clips if anyone is interested. Clips of the old Pirelli tires on city streets up to about 45 mph, and then the new all terrains getting up to about 70 mph on the highway and then cruising at 77 mph on the highway.
Initial take on these is they seem to fit fine with zero modifications even though they are ever so slightly wider and taller than stock. Compared to the Pirellis they definitely wander a bit on the highway, as would be expected. And you can for sure hear them. Might be a little much for some to go from the Pirellis, which are super quiet, to these, which are not. So keep that in mind. When the reviews say "quiet for a tire with this type of tread" take that to mean exactly what it says. They are quiet for a tire WITH AGGRESSIVE TREAD. They are not an inherently quiet tire. With that said, I don't think they're any louder than a lot other all-terrains with less aggressive tread. We'll see how that goes as they age. Honestly, with them brand new right now it's not so much a louder sound as just a different pitch. Kind of like the difference in being at a bar when it's just you and your partner vs being at packed bar where there is a lot of background noise. You can still have a conversation easily. Still hear the radio, etc. There's just more hum in the background. (Mud terrain tires would be more like you and your partner are at a packed bar and a heavy metal band is packed into the corner with their amps turned up to 11.)
The video clips are too big to post here so PM me if you want them, and/or I'll see if I can link them somewhere too.
Sorry for the long post but happy to contribute to a great thread that helped me a lot when I was deciding what to do.
I was set on the Nitto Recon Grappler but they are just a little too tamed... I have seen a couple of P/Us and a Defender with them on and while I know it is a fantastic tire, it looks meh.
I saw the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T on a Jeep yesterday and they looked... well, Boss!
Looking at the tech specs, the 275/55 20 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T is 32.2" overall tire height. The OEM Goodyear is 31.9", I don't think 1/3" would be a problem.
Has anyone seen them on a Defender with 20" wheels? or had a real world experience with them on a daily driver?
I know the Recon Grappler would be a much nicer ride on the pavement (which is 85% of my driving) but there is something to be said about the brute look of the M/T
Thanks!
I just put on the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT in 275/55/20 on my 90. No running or scrubbing that I can tell. I have air suspension and they seem just fine. They do hum on the Highway a fair amount but not really that bad for such aggressive tread.
here is how they look on mine.

My Defender came with the 22's, and I just picked up a set of 20"wheels. My plan was to get a set of Falken Wildpeak A/T3's, which I had on a previous Gladiator and loved, but I just noticed the Falken Rubitrek A/T's. These look like another great option. Does anyone here have any experience with them? Would love some feedback. Thanks.
