Noise from snorkel?
Is there wind noise or buffeting at higher speeds? 60-90 mph? I’ve read that some can hear the intake noises. Is it irritating? I honestly am considering this mod purely from a cosmetic purpose. It doesn’t increase wade depth and drawing air a bit higher likely has dubious benefits than drawing air 40” from the ground
How on earth could it not increase noise? It's an add-on item that asymmetrically protrudes from the front at the windshield on one side, and that side also happens to be the side you're sitting on with both your ears wide effin' open. It will make noise. It will rattle and shake. It will loosen and will need adjustment and care with time. Dirt and debris and salt and snow will absolutely get stuck in whatever additional nooks and crannies it creates and there'll be additional noises from that stuff too. Look, I like it. I really like the idea of hearing the wooooosh of inhalation with acceleration, I do. But on a website where like 19% of the threads are indignantly screaming "what's making this noise?" I think it's incredible that people are looking, are actively looking, for ways for their defender to make more noises. It's not about build-quality or paying for what you get, it's freaking physics. The thing changing the wind-flow over your vehicle will result in noises that you won't hear without that thing. Ugh! And on top of it all, for most of us, the snorkel doesn't do damn thing. Nothing. If you're driving in enough dust for it to matter, where there isn't a dealership within a thousand miles to change your air filters, congrats, you're in Afghanistan. It's cos-met-ic.

Let me rephrase, ours came with it, so I can't say it makes more noise than any of the other noises we have. If it didn't have it when we bought it, I wouldn't put it on there. Like one poster said, it is more of a cosmetic thing.
I believe the primary advantage of the New Defender snorkel is in sand. Desert and dry dune sand. To keep the fine particles out of the air filter. Very useful for this, I think.
As for water, this would demand non-vented differentials and heavy duty wiring waterproofing. I suspect this vehicle has neither (but am not sure).
