Yeah. That's pretty much what I figured. I'll make do with the factory off road. Should be a good enough tire. Even with the Wrangler Adventure, it should be a reasonable improvement in snow-traction with all the electronic AWD doodads in the Defender over my current 2wd Acura MDX on Blizzaks.

I guess there is no substitute for trying them out on the snowy passes myself before making any judgement. I do view snow tires as win win though, as I'll have the car for 10years at least. Getting a set of winter tires will mean more years out of the Wrangler Adventures to muck about with in addition to the added fun, comfort and safety that a good winter tire offers Dec-Apr.

I will have the 20"

Tire Rack lists both the Wrangler All-Terrain Adventures and Duratracs in compatible 19" sizes that should be sufficient for most used no? (Edit, went back and reread thread yeah those are OEM options eh?).

I would have thought 19" would be better than going 20" and sacrificing more sidewall.

I have the Adventures which are perfect for on road and light off road, but I wouldn’t trust my $80K plus car on them in the winter. The one day I used them on snow last winter was enough to convince me never again. I wouldn’t even trust three peak AT tires because they aren’t nearly as good as full snow tires according to every test, especially on ice, and we have ice all the time. I went with the Scorpion winters on a second set of OEM eBay wheels, and they were fantastic. Better on dry pavement than my previous Nokians and equal to them on snow and ice. Surprised me. There is a list of approved snow tires in the iguide btw. And to those who think all the doodads will overcome crappy tire traction in snow, they don’t do squat once you hit the brakes. It’s just like any car with abs at that point. If you drive in snow and ice, a second set of winter wheels is really a must.

yes, it is true the more sidewall the better.

To be transparent, there is a subjective pain of history in this topic .... based on the challenge that there historically have been and still are virtually no 19" wheel size true off-road tires available.

Just recently, continental and goodyear have introduced their AT tires -- the Goodyear AT is stock off-road on the Defender. When you want to upgrade to mud tires or heavy duty off-road tires and have multiple brands to choose from, there is nothing avialable at 19". To be fair, I give JLR congrats for also having Goodyear make the duratracs for 19" . That is the only real off-road tire at 19" out there. I looked at the tire and I think it is a possibility for me (at 18").

Prior to the recent AT additions, there was really nothing available for the stock 19" wheels on the LR4 -- for years - something I have never understood why it took so long to make available an AT tire.

Other companies make 20" off road tires (though fewer than 18, 17 or 16 inch). 19" is just a historical gap in offerings.

To avoid this challenge, many on the forum have puchased a Lucky8 18" brake caliper kit to convert their P400 Defenders to run 18" -- giving them both more sidewall and more choice.

i just checked tire rack and the 25565R19 duratracs DO come with the 3-peak snowflake symbol.

I own those tires. Trust me, there is no snowflake symbol anywhere on the sidewall. On most other Duratracs there is, but not on this particular size (which is also made in Germany, unusual for a Duratrac.) I have my doubts about the 18 and 20" Defender-specific sizes having the three-peak / snowflake rating as well (255/70R18XL and 255/60R20XL Duratracs), but I have never seen those in the flesh so I can't say for sure. Online info is confusing at best.

that’s odd and intriguing. Thanks for elaborating on it.

I'm in Seattle. I'd be interested to hear what all-round tires others in PNW end up with. I have a 2020 110 with the Good Year AT Adventure and 5,000 mi on the clock. So far the tires have been great on dry and wet hwy but pretty poor in snow. Looking to get rid of them before next winter. I'm looking for the best year-round tire for this area specifically. I don't do a ton of off-road driving, except dirt forest service roads summer and winter. Don't want to sacrifice too much fuel economy or hwy comfort and definitely want the 3peak rating. Had Toyo Open Country AT2s on previous rig and didn't ever need dedicated snows. They were pretty quiet on the hwy, decent for light off-road and good in snow. Discovery owner friend has BFG KO2s, and loves them, but they don't have a great rating for wet hwy, which is 80-90% of my driving in PNW.

I am not adding Johnson Rods, mainly because vehicle is already too tall for some parking garages even without a rack on top, and it definitely handles better on the hwy at Comfort Mode height. In 275/55/20 I'm looking at General Grabber A/TX, Cooper Discoverer A/T3, BFG A/T KO2, Toyo Open Country A/T3, Pirelli Scorpion A/T Plus.
