If you have a P300 I'll send you my old Mightyvac for free. I have never used it since we sold our LR4s and I was going to throw it out. It certainly paid for itself after 40 LR4 oil changes. Just send me a PM with your name & address.
If you have a P400 you need the OEM tools model 24938 extractor with 9.5 liter capacity. Amazon no longer sells it but just look it up in Google and find another seller.
The MittyVac 8.8 L (2.3 gallon) works just fine on the P400
Curiously the oil shown above meets the old LR oil spec, but the Liqui Moly TopTek 6600 LR (0W20) is the correct oil that meets both the old spec and the new.
Very confusing since the spec number is lower both before and after the period (not meant to be a decimal number, but that's what everyone thinks).
If you click on the Amazon link above, it will tell you that the oil is not for your vehicle, but clicking below on "What Fits" my vehicle takes you here:
Liqui Moly 22046 Top Tec 6600 SAE 0W-20 Synthetic Motor Oil, 5 Liter
Surely Land Rover is only interested in the vehicle lasting the warranty period plus a few years after that.
They're not interested in it lasting 200,000 miles.
Changing the oil more often than the 21,000 interval probably won't see any difference until you get to high mileage, say over 100,000
After that, who knows if changing the oil every 10,000 for the first 100,000 will have made the engine last longer.
But if the engine does fail at that age/mileage the vehicle is likely to be uneconomical to repair.
So l am going to play safe and get the oil changed every 10,000

FWIW, the recommended oil change interval on the LR4 V8 was 15K miles. Lots of LR4 owners needed to have their noisy timing chain guides replaced after 100K miles. Those of us on the LR4 forum that changed the oil every 7500 miles seldom had that issue. Mine were still quiet at 200K miles when I moved on to the Defender. So yes, I'm going with oil changes every 10K on the Defender.

LOL...True, I agree, I got all the oil out. I tried it on the first Defender oil change and filled the Mityvac to the top plus the entire plastic tube. Maybe my 'factory fill" was a little overfilled. It was a mess dealing with oil filled tubing. Plus, I like the OEM tools version since it connects to an air compressor.

Of courier, it's a couple bucks more - and you need two per oil change (7.8L = P300, 8.8L = P400).
For what its worth, my local LR dealer's (they dropped J, quite presciently it seems) service advisors agreed with me when I told them that 21k oil change service was nuts for a forced induction engine. That said, $760 for an oil change, cabin pollen air filter change, FOB battery replacement and windshield wiper change is highway robbery.
Such is the life I bought into when the wife said she liked land rovers I suppose.
Buy a Mityvac and do the oil change yourself. You don't need to even go underneath the vehicle and the oil filter is at the front of the engine, takes five minutes to change it.
