On my Discovery with the V6 3.0 engine we did annual which was 16,000 miles. Took the truck to 100k miles with zero issues. Did an oil analysis a couple of times that suggested there was more life in the oil. Lots of highway of course and not heavy duty towing. But shows these engines and modern oils are very different from before

I would have no hesitation with similar and annual on these new engines too. Just for our 130X this month and that's currently my plan. Nothing wrong with more frequent but oil analysis and research would suggest it's not needed.

First oil change 1,000 miles, all others 5,000 miles.

Did my first oil change at 2000 miles and the second at 4000 after an 18 hour road trip. Plan to do the next one at 10,000.

FWIW, JLR recommended a 15,000 mile oil change interval on the LR4 V8. I cut it in half to changing the oil every 7500 miles and my timing chain guides were still quiet at 200,000 miles. Others that followed the 15,000 change interval had timing chain guide issues by 100,000. Based on this, I'm going with 10,000 mile oil change intervals on our Defenders.

Just got my oil change kit (for the V8) with the proper oil and plan on doing it around 2K miles or so. Has 1300 on it now. Will probably do every 5K miles or so. NO way I'd wait until 21K miles!!!

Nor should you. The V8 service intervals are less than the other engine types. 16,000miles if memory serves. A full breakdown is in the user manual. Passport to service.

21k oci is marketing and sucking up to the epa, not engineering. Remember that once the vehicle is sold and out of warranty it’s your problem, not theirs. They are pushing the limits of viscosity with ever thinner oil in high pressure engine applications, 5k oci is reasonable considering the other factors. I changed it first at 865 miles, then at 5k.

Did you remove everytime all your underplating ?
Consider the Fumoto drain plug

My plan is to alternate - drain vs syphon.
