I don't think grinding will be feasible on the rears for fitting the steelies. The +41.5 offset will bring them in too much. A caliper swap and spacers to keep the same wheel tracks front and rear might be the way to go.

Clearance is tight as a fishes back side on this mod. Front and rear. One alloy has gotten a pretty big internal groove (1-1.5mm deep). This is from the fronts and some off-road debris getting lodged in there. Caliper has a matching groove. All 4 have some internal scratching from dirt. 2-3mm of clearance.

I don't know how thick the alloy is but approximate measures are 5-6mm so I'm likely fine.

Would be very interested to see if/how the steelies fit with a trimmed caliper.
Really disheartened to read this. I wasn't aware of the caliper size differences when I stumbled upon a steal of a deal for some white OEM steelies. I own a p400 and have since found out that you're able to grind the calipers to fit 18" wheels but none of the examples were using white steelies. I was second guessing since I started shaving the calipers. This is the first I've seen mentioning anything about the difficulties of fitting the white steelies.

Can I ask your source for your information? You seem like a wealth of knowledge, and I wish I read this months ago.

Hey. Don't know a bout a wealth. Perhaps a piggy bank half full (or half empty depending on your mood).

I've fitted 18"s to my P400 and did quite a bit of homework beforehand.

I had asked Lucky8 if they'd had any customers that had fitted the steelies on their p400 as that was mu initial hope. They had one example.
Another forum member has fitted the steelies to his P400. He confirmed the need for front spacers and the need to trim the new rear brake calipers a little to allow the steelies to fit. He uses them part time for off-road adventures.

The alloys that do work with ease have offsets of +20 to +29. It's an easier trim with the +20mm? EvoCorse Dakar and +27 Tuffant Simpson. I used the +29mm Kimberley and it was a more complex trim. Doing it again, I'd go Simpson alloy or the new Pilbara X. OEM at +41.5 would make a trim impossible.

The Tuffant Pilbara steel rims also required spacers to fit the P400 after a rear caliper swap. I spoke with Jake at Tuffant. He was a great trove on info on the rims they offered and the added requirements to fit the steel Pilbaras. Now the new Pilbara X has a design that mean spacers not required. I don't want to mess with spacers.

I'd read the great writeup from Saltek Motor sports, GrouseK9 post in this thread, and another user who modded his to fit the EvoCorse. His was the first person I'd seen do the trim. There is a thread in the forum somewhere. Great info.

In short, I just dug into the weeds on this and was helped by great helpful folks at Tuffant and Lucky8

The steelies can be fitted but it's too many hoops for my tastes.

LR have discontinued the steelies on the P300 in North America so this set would probably sell fast if you ever decided to part ways. It's a crying shame they've done this. I'd love to be able to run them.

Best of luck going forward. I hope my ramblings are of some use. to the best of my knowledge, what I've posted is correct.

Thank you so much brother. I feel like such an idiot for ruining my calipers for nothing. This was a really hard thread to find, I must have googled the combo of p400 and white steelies a hundred different ways to bring up threads and reddit had even less info going through the newdefender sub. I'll end up selling the wheels. Thank you again brother, hopefully others find this post before attempting like I did haha

No worries mate.

I'm sure your calipers will be fine. I trimmed mine 50,000 miles ago and all is good.

If anything, you've made your P400 more attractive to future buyers.
An 18"- ready P400 crying out for a set of Simpson alloys. (They go on sale from time to time)
