I'm at nearly 10,000 miles on my P400 and even on long highway road trips (and not a ton of weight in the vehicle) I have a real hard time averaging anything higher than 19.2 for a tank. I wasn't expecting it to sip fuel, but I was expecting better MPG especially on longer drives.
My real world numbers as measured by the onboard trip computer:
As you can see, my Defender is all over the board as far as mileage. The most recent trip was rough: Left my home driving into a constant 35-45mph wind with gust over 60. Driving through South Dakota where the speed limit is 80mph on Interstate 90 with that wind drove my numbers down to single digits. But on the say back, I got more respectable numbers in the low 17s.

I should have mentioned, the first image represents a set of numbers for the top 30 trips. The second image is for the bottom 30 trips. Anything from 1/14 -1/17 represent a fairly long road trip my wife and I took.
Just so you know - a data point ... an update at 4000+ miles for my P300 powered 2020 Defender 110. During a long drive this weekend, we proceeded to view and erase all the miles logged since new.
Basically, in city, hwy, some mountains driving, a little bit of towing of 1000 to 4000 lbs, not more than two persons in the vehicle, and never going faster than 72 mph or so, and never pressing the pedal to the floor, and not driving in windy conditions, --- over 4000 + miles --- we averaged right on 20 mpg.
P300 S 110 - Posted somewhere earlier on this BUT at 5000 + miles my trip A computer whichI have not reset for 1500 miles is just at 21mpg. I view the milage computer in AUTO so each ignition cycle I start over and for my average around town 3-4 miles before I stop I always work my way up to between 20.5 and 22. On longer local trips of at least 20-25 miles I get a bit better depending on headwinds etc so that means from 22-24. All of this data is in relatively flat driving with some gentle hills. I have done much better on longer drives with a bit of heavy traffic but only if I don’t exceed about 64 mph. Kinda the brick moving through air maximum efficiency speed in my mind. I had a 60 mile drive at 25mpg coming back on some interstate but I stayed I. Slow lane except for a few miles when I couldn’t take it anymore and drove 72mph. Then some backroads to home. I also had a couple of really good 27-28 mpg segments but got a head start coming downhill from mountains.
I do think that if I was in miserable stop and go I would struggle to get to 20mpg. That daily grind was why I sold my original Defender which I didn’t want to kill in a commute.
I can safely say I easily live in the low to mid 20s for mpg with the 4 cylinder depending on the trip. When I take my annual North Dakota hunting trip and sit at 80 mph for hours especially with a headwind I don’t think I would be surprised to see 19 for an average but I might still make 20.
Should LR just kept the Jaguar NA V8? I know it sounds too late but I like the V8 growl of my L320 vs the Hum of my X.
Yes, for the growl only. No because I'm tired of buying LR4 alternators from valve cover gasket and upper timing chain oil leaks dripping into the alternator. Paying $2k right now to fix another oil leak and replace the alternator and battery again. Then there is the issue of the plastic coolant manifold and plastic crossover pipe that let go and fry the motor almost immediately. I'm ready to take my chances with the new Ingenium motor over the Ford V8 and it's plastic parts stamped with FoMoCo.
I really like the 4 banger Ingenium in both of our vehicles now- I am over growling and like smoothness and hopefully reliability- so far so good Still feel for TFL ‘s first one. That was odd.
