Default Post-warranty fixes on repairs done in warranty

I noted in a different thread that my coolant light has gone on again. I'm outside of my factory warranty, but I've had this worked on twice at the local dealership, and I'm within one year of my last repair. If I'm reading the T&C's properly, their last work is covered for 1 year/unlimited mileage from the last repair. Has anyone had issues with getting fixes post-factory warranty, but within their own 1 year repair warranty window?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have an extended warranty or a dealer-purchased extended warranty?

if not, your dealer should have record, as all JLR dealers seem to warranty their work for a year based on what I’ve seen.

if they didn’t fix the problem the first time under warranty (or not and you paid out of pocket), and it’s still a problem, it’s still JLRs duty to fix it.

In CA, its law that all repairs come with a one year warranty.

Of course we are assuming that it’s the same coolant leak, and not a different component that they didn’t work on.

I would get a third party inspection at an independent shop and ask for photos of the leak with an estimate. If it’s the same component, go challenge the dealer! If you take to them directly, they will just tell you it’s a different leak, businesses love to not stand behind their work these days.

The JLR dealers I have worked with all have a one year warranty on repairs they perform and parts they replace. If you have moved away from the area where your local dealer is, call them and have them authorize the repair at your nearest dealer. They may ask you to pay for it and then send them the receipt for reimbursement.

This is exactly what I'm worried about. That they'll try to say it's something "new" or whatever they can to find a way to charge me for something that would need a 3rd repair in 3 years.

I had some warranty work done. Replaced a broken rear shock. 11 months later the shock is again loose.

I suspect it was not torqued correctly.

contacted the dealer and they told me the warranty repairs were only covered till the end of the warranty period which was just a few months after the repair.

Asked them if they stood over their repairs for a 1 year period. Nope. Only till end of warranty.

they offered to get it on and take a look at my cost of course.

Given that it took me spending lots of time walking them through the diagnostics the last time, sharing them videos and all the info they could need and then 3 service visits to get the repair finally done the way I told them it needed to be done I’m not about to make that mistake again.

Bonus prize is getting to fix all the loose malpositioned interior panels and replace missing clips .

So no. My local LR dealership here in the Seattle area does not stand over their warranty repairs. They’ll just get you to the end of warranty and then it’s GTFO.

That sucks that you had to deal with that. I'm going to end up fixing my DLR myself, so I'm kinda looking forward to posting up in my father-in-law's garage and taking my time to take some things apart and putting them back together.

When I was on the phone with the dealer service people about something else, I got a similar line about only 'til end of warranty, but their service contract does stipulate a year on replacement parts and the labor relating to it. And also relying on other Californian's experiences since we're supposed to have a year on car repairs here.

I'll report back!

DRL swap is simple. 30 minute job. $400 swap

Repair is little trickier but a lot cheaper $10

I wouldn’t consider wasting my time at dealer for that out of warranty. It’s a pita that these lights are so badly designed. They all fail.
