Here is the Maintenance Schedule from Land Rover, copied directly from my Pre-Paid Maintenance (PPM) contract. Figured it will be useful for anyone crunching the numbers.
Dealerships should only charge you $1,675.00 (as of 11/5/22) for this 4-yr PPM contract. If they are trying to charge more than this, they are 100% attempting to overcharge you for their gain. In fact, this the price is printed on the contract in a non-editable field stating "Plan Purchase Price: $1,675.00" from the factory contract. If they refuse to budge, ask you see a copy of the contract printed out for yourself.
Here is a screenshot of the fine print regarding refunds, transfers, cancellations, etc:
Hope this helps provide everyone some transparency!
Do keep in mind the part about if you use any services no refunds will be issued. I got bit by this recently, I had an oil change at 15k miles which was not a full first scheduled maintenance because that can only officially be performed at 20k so they did the oil change but not whatever else was supposed to be done at 20k. I traded in my Defender right at 20k actually about three weeks ago and even though I had an email from my sales guy at LR that stated they would issue me a refund for unused services his manager firmly said no to that. What it amounted to then was a $1200 oil change. Oh well, I did plan to keep the vehicle for at least four years however circumstances intervened where my taxes increased and that lowered what I considered to be a 'reasonable' vehicle budget for me. I'm ok now, I traded in for $300 per month cheaper on my new vehicle payment and should have no issues recovering the extended warranty from the Defender which fortunately IS pro-rated. I wouldn't say don't buy the maintenance, I'd probably do so even if I had it to do all over again but there is always the possibility you will lose out on that if you ever decide to bail out early. Even at the high payment with my budget becoming tighter I probably would've just kept it and hung in there but tbh I had IMO way too many things go wrong with it to justify that kind of payment. YMMV

$1,675 doesn't seem outrageous to me. Not that it's cheap but I would have thought it'd be higher. Might be interested in that if and when she leaves Zeebrugge. Between work and a kid I wish I had the time and energy to do some of this stuff by myself!
the prepaid maintenance was quite confusing. I did purchase for my previous defender and new defender. part of the package was provided by JLR but the other was a 3rd party company. I was not properly explained this. When i traded the first defender i did get a prorated refund back.
on the p400 it doesn’t make a lot of sense as the service interval is every 20k or two years. I was told they are starting to see issues with the engine and might move to a yearly schedule. Every 2 years was pretty ridiculous

Did they mention if they’re seeing issues with other engines or just the P300?
@GavinC - Where did you pick up the cabin filter? At a local Dealer or online? If the later, can you share a link? Thanks. I also suspect its with the cabin air ionization as well - which I passed on.

"Told" by who?
Unless I had a company tech employee or dealer (owner/employee) who was a close personal friend I wouldn't believe a word about that. That sounds like service writer upsell 101.
That said, we have chosen to service ours yearly for no other reason than we can.

I got it online from OEMparts. The non-ioniser filter is a bit cheaper LR133345
I would say that anyone looking at total costs vs. costs savings with the 4-year PPM contract consider more than just oil changes.
You're getting following services performed by LR:
- (2) oil changes + filter
- (2) pollen filters
- (2) Brake fluid changes
- (1) Air cleaner element
- (1) Transmission oil change (states *if applicable)
- regular fluid top ups and inspections
I would think the brake fluid jobs and oil changes alone at a dealer could put you close to that sale price of the contract with labor. If you someone does it themselves, no doubt it will be cheaper, but I'll personally stick to servicing mine at the dealer. Of course to each their own.
