Preferred GAP tool?
The USB cable is for updating the firmware on the actual tool, you would need to connect it to either your Mac or PC to update it when they are available. In general use you just connect it to your phone or tablet
I hear about the GAP tools, but when looking on amazon its a bit confusing as the reviews on some are saying they are limited, or out of date -
This is the one I was looking at, if you have another you are perfectly happy with, could you link it in here for me? Thank you

This tool has not worked on my 2023 Defender to change the start/stop remember last setting or any of the dynamic settings the only thing it has done successfully is turn off the seatbelt chime. I would not spend the money or recommend it, I reached out to the company and they just said it does not work on all vehicles.
Did not work on my 2022 defender for any of the functional changes but gutting off the seatbelt chime. I would not recommend it, I tried to reach out and got a reply that it does not work on all vehicles.
I bought one of the scan tools that were supposedly programmed for Jaguar/Land Rover 3 years ago. Not surprisingly it’s no longer offered. I think it did not list my engine when I had my jaguar XJ & XJL. And even though I only bought it a few years ago, imagine my surprise when I bought a seven-year-old Land Rover Discovery V and it’s not even supported. (Some basic functions are.) it’s surprising to think it has to be more than eight years old to be supported by something you bought. And then, it may not be in their list of options when running a vehicle diagnosis.
I haven’t splurged yet, but these folks at Dap Diagnostics seem pretty upfront. They say what version may or may not work for what vehicle you have and if others are still in the process of being tested, they say so.
I only found out about them when I was researching what to do to have my suspension fixed. One of the YouTube videos, someone who has the tool showed how it worked. I would take superior functionality over clever GUI icons.
