The process does not work for me. It says my VIN can't be found. Anyone have suggestions?

Grab a VIN from a CPO?
For example

https://inventory.landroverusa.com/u...%20Dynamic%20S

has a carfax report linked

https://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistor...qm1_m0qOFQ26nA

With a VIN of SALEY6RU9M2047411

Default 128Gb USB v3.0/1000Mbps

Download took about 30 mins loading onto a 128Gb USB v3.0 drive from a ~1,000Mbps DL speed cable ISP connection. My guess for those experiencing issues is the size of the update relative to the speed of the connection, and version of USB used.

Here are my questions, starting with... why? Do we need to manually update maps? How do we tell which version we're downloading from Here? Is there a predictable cycle for updates, or is it just random?

I can tell what version I'm on via the Pivi interface but, there's no ReadMe file, or indication of what version I just downloaded.

I agree, this process is rather old school and not particularly well documented. Hope JLR doesn't pay much for their contract with Here...

For what it is worth, make sure the thumb drive is formatted FAT32 and not 64 (which is the default these days). The HERE Map thing is still very old school and last time I bought an update, took hours to download (and that has nothing to do with download speed) and something that is 'throttled' on that side. Once plugged into the car, it took less than 5 minutes to update.

The site doesn’t even recognize my vin to allow me to download the update, odd. I’ve verified and tried a few times, no dice

Throttling seems possible but, with such a wide range of DL times reported in the thread also seems likely that it's more than that. I am surprised it only took 5 mins to upload for you, took 30 mins on mine. I love how the date in the interface reflects the date of the upload and not a SW version date. For all I know, I just rolled back a version...
