I agree, the "Puddle Lights" are an embarrassing poser addition to the car, kind of like the bright red calipers. I would have preferred if the engineering talent had gone into making the electrical system a tiny bit more robust. It is not like it suffers from the old Lucas curse, there is hardly enough electricity to produce any smoke if it shorted out. I find the narcissistic aura of the puddle lights about as embarrassing as if I had one of those RAM trucks with the giant chrome goat head on the tailgate or one of the Mercedes with the logo the size of an oversized pie plate. I would expect a discount for perpetually advertising for the manufacturer. Heck when I was at university, companies would pay you a monthly fee to have some kind of advertising wrap put on your VW beetle. I would expect some kind of fee for every time I opened the door. Then again, I am terrified to open the door, not wanting to run down the diminutive battery.
