Rattle From Engine Bay Under Acceleration
Hey all, curious as to if anyone else has experienced this issue. Its now happened to me 3 or 4 times on my P400; when mildly accelerating from around 20 mph (think freeway on-ramp type acceleration) using about half-throttle, I'll get this quick series of rattles from the engine bay accompanied by a brief power loss. It's almost like it goes into a brief limp mode. If I continue to roll into the throttle, nothing happens, I don't get any more rattling but the truck also doesn't want to continue to accelerate. If I release the throttle and then give it 75% to 100% it will finally kick down and accelerate.
I'm not getting any kind of warnings on the dash or codes as far as I can tell.
Before I call the dealer for yet another service appointment I figured I'd see if anyone else had experienced this.

Sounds like engine knock, which is being detected by the fuel injection system/knock sensors, and thus playing with timing and fuel or whatever to pull back on power to protect the engine. Def have it looked at. Still under warranty?

Mine is currently at the dealer to diagnose this issue. Road tested with the lead technician yesterday when dropping off and was able to duplicate it constantly on light acceleration around 1400-2000 rpm, it definitely sounds like engine detonation ping or knock. Hoping they'll get it sorted, but I'll report back!
Well, the dealership went through may checks and found the electric supercharger causing the noise, (no codes) also found fouled spark plugs (only 10k on veh) they replaced all plugs and supercharger, took it home and noise still present. Dropped it back at the dealership, and they are still finding the noise to be coming from the supercharger when using chassis ears, another supercharger ordered and will be replaced. Looks like @DEFENDER2020 had a similar experience. Not convinced this will fix it, but I pray it does. Unfortunately I had to cancel my 3 day weekend getaway and LR experience.
Hi @jaredmonez@gmail.com I just returned from my dealer and had both the service tech and salesman drive my P400 110, they both heard the noise. At lower rpms, say around 1500-2000 under load is when you hear the valves / timing chain kind of slap another metal part. The tech said it is the VCT (Variable Camshaft Timing) and is a NORMAL(?) sound.
For precaution, my car will go to the dealer as the tech said there could be hidden codes that are not showing up on the screen at start up etc...
I can live with the sound now knowing it is considered normal, however bringing the car in for me at least, is beneficial to starting a history of a potential, future issue.
