I purchase the OEM NGK spark plugs from NGK.com and I was able to get all 6 of them for $80 and some change.
No worries. that’s a great price for the plugs. I didn’t know the company that made the plugs till after I bought them. I think I paid $23 per plug. I’ll check.

Best of luck with it.

I have no doubt someone more competent than I will have little trouble with that intercooler. That’s really the crux of the whole thing.

The only thing not in the attached pdf is the front cowl removal. But that’s easy enough. Two clips, 3 bolts, wipers and the wiper hoses.

It was Saturday night 21st December and right as I got that malevolent hose on the intercooler back on, the choir in the churchyard up the road began to sing Christmas hymns. I had the garage door open and could hear them in the distance. Seemed very apt as I'd almost lost the will to live carry on at that point.

Beer was cracked right then and there.

One should probably sprinkle the beer step in a bit more liberally than I've outlined.

  • Oil changes
  • Filter changes
  • Brake Flushes
  • Tire rotations
  • Diff and transfer case drain/fill
  • $3 Wiper blade refresh
All easy items that can save you a ton of cash and are fun to do. Land Rover owners often become home mechanics by default. lol

Had the ancient Greeks been Defender P400 owners, Sisyphus wouldn't have gotten off so lightly. The gods would have an eternal supply of charge air coolers to de-hose/re-hose.

Go Maroons!
Thank you for taking the time to help the community. This is truly outstanding!

Where can I find the home servicing thread you mentioned in your post?

thanks mate. I’ve learned a lot on this forum so it’s fun to add a bit back.

The thread is here and in my signature.

One thing that we've done over at the H1 forum I run is to collate some useful and commonly referenced posts/information into PDF's that are downloadable and easily referenced. Indeed we have our own "maintenance manual" that was compiled by one of the longtime member knowledge gurus. Another very popular document is "New Owners Information and Common Issues" doc which is 100 pages long.

Perhaps @GavinC 's amazing posts could bc assembled into a single document and put into a sticky post at the top of the forum so people who are ready to dive into the DIY pool have a springboard that is easily referenced.

Not sure if my grease monkeying is all that but thanks for the kind words. Very much appreciated. I’ve learned a great deal on here and elsewhere in the forums from folks who were kind enough to share their know how.

The full shop manuals for the P400 and P300 are in the thread too. It’s really a great resource to have. It’s a massive file and the search function is not great on it but all the info is there. Covers most anything it seems.

I managed to cut out and collate the bits for the spark plugs but I have similar files for diff drain/fill. Transfer case etc. the spark plugs was more of a rabbit hole as so much stuff had to be taken off.

Cool! I’ve only been to Cairns once, but I used to live very close in Townsville Was a bit confused when you said you were in the states… until I realised that Kirkland isn’t a city in Western Australia - it’s a city in Washington
