I have read through a bunch of posts on how how to upgrade the way too dim back-up lights on my 2023.5 Defender with a secondary light source (PowerFulUK, AliExpress, etc) but I was wondering if anyone has attempted to upgrade just the existing bulbs as a way to improve the brightness?

Clearly it won't provide the level of improvement that bolting on a full reverse light-bar will provide, but if I can get 50% more lightning with a different bulb, it may be a far less intrusive improvement to a dangerous issue. A number of Chinese companies sell much brighter bulbs than our stock vehicles come with from the factory, but before jumping in I thought I would reach out to the team for their experience on this subject.

I just want to change bulbs if possible, not add on additional auxiliary lighting. I have found a few places that sell replacement back-up lights that claim to be > 50% brighter than stock, but I am not sure that I believe them.

 

You could be the one who tries them out!

Then you can report back on whether they are indeed 50% brighter. or whether it's just filthy lies.
