Do a search there's a post from a guy called the insider that worked at JLR corporate. It's really not an issue. If you want a roof rack on a V8 put one on.

I plan on asking the question at the upcoming OCTA event. My guess is it relates to speed/regulations. But with all terrain tires the speed will be limited anyway. If I buy the OCTA (90) I plan on installing the roof rack and using cross bars when necessary. (Just in case I need more than a six pack on a trip).

I put roof rails on my V8 - no problem. Mind you I also have 20” wheels so my top speed is limited anyway which is fine with me.

I don't believe the Octa is available in a 90.

Good point. I can’t get a definitive answer. No reason it couldn’t. Basically same platform, etc. and the current V8 comes in the 90 model. Certainly the more progressive trade media show mockups of the “OCTA” 90. LR media only shows the 110 in test. I guess we will find out soon. If I find out at the EVENT, based on the NDA I can report it on the cusp of death.

I was told explicitly it was 110 only.

Consensus suggests you are right, at least for the first set of orders. However, I would like to just get an order in for a 90, don't really care when delivery. We'll see. This truck/SUV/car is definitely on the want list not the need list!

My thought is that this will
be very expensive, I expect around 200,000 USD. It has the same engine as the Range Rover Sport SV. I also heard each dealer only gets 3 orders and no price is stated yet. It’s a hybrid so it will also be heavier than the current models. If you want a V8 get one now. I have a CE on order for delivery in June. Since these engines don’t meet EU standard, these will be final traditional V8. I don’t see the BMW model worth another 80,000? Hybrid V8s will be a specialty items with a huge price premium in the future.

I don’t work for JLR but I’ve worked on similar stuff at other companies. The reason is that the center of gravity would be too high for the amount of grip that the tires provide on the V8.

Most pick up and SUV tires are purposely limited in the maximum grip capacity to prevent roll-overs during emergency maneuvers when the truck is heavily loaded, and a couple hundred lbs on the roof makes a huge difference in a trucks rollover resistance.

This is not only a high speed issue. Cars have the most grip and yaw response at lower speeds, so things can go haywire even at 30-40mph.
