I have not heard of this. If it were me -- Ask specifically what and where they are welding, and get pictures of it.

That's odd indeed. Sorry mate !

On the one hand credit to the dealer for going above and beyond and trying to resolve this for you, but on the other you're not crazy to think lemon law. Anything requiring welding to resolve is over and above a regular repair and I'd be concerned too. California deems cars that are in the shop and out of service for more than 30 days within certain time limits to be presumptive lemons, so you probably do have a case if that's a route you want to explore. With that said it may be worth seeing what does need to get done and if it fixes the issue before deciding what you want to do.

To make a long story short, between LR and my dealer, they figured it out and fixed the rattle. It took one month and two weeks. Overall, I was happy with the fix and very impressed with the service manager. I ended up getting some compensation, because I had to bring my Defender back to them twice after the rattle fix (some body panels were not properly assembled). I think this particular rattle was a unique problem to my Defender.

where in CA are you? would you recommend your LR dealership?
I'm currently running into an odd airbag sensor issue with my D5 discovery.
