Default Snow Chains for BFG AT 275/55R20's

Yeah, I know I don't really need them - Mammoth and highway 395 with 30' of snow, ice and hard pack last weekend proved that pretty well, however... I'm supposed to carry them, so if I'm going to buy some, I'd like them to be functional and not just a pair to fool the highway patrol.

The BFG's are already pretty tight in the wheel wells. Has anyone actually run down a highway at 30mph with this size tire, chains, stock wheel wells and not shredded or damaged anything?

The OEM chains have no real information - https://store.landrover.com/vplew014...on-system.html
Even the parts guy at Santa Monica LRJ had no extra info - they just say they fit 18" to 20" wheels (and yeah, I think 22"s I guess). But that's not real helpful given the tight tolerances and tire size.

These (and others) look similar and spec out for the 275/55R20's - https://tirechain.com/275-55r20-275-...d-tire-chains/
I'm assuming 4.5mm is the chain dept - that might work assuming they stay tight?

The Manual says the following:
  1. Full-chain traction devices can be fitted to the front and rear wheels of vehicles with the following tyre sizes:
  • 255/70R18.
  • 255/65R19.
  • 255/60R20.
  1. Half-chain traction devices can be fitted to the front and rear wheels of vehicles with the following tyre size:
  • 275/45R22.
What's a "Half-chain" traction device? Google's a little vague on the Half-chain term - maybe those front side of tire only devices?

Also, it appears they want you to have 2 sets, front and back tires - but I've seen some posts with only rear tires as okay?

Anyone have any real experience or advice here?

Thanks!

Snow socks in a never-to-be-opened packet will meet all chain carrying legal requirements in almost all jurisdictions mandating such things. As you rightly pointed out chains are only okayed by LR on the limited sizes in the manual.

Socks or chains. Fit them to the rears and AFAIK, turn off DSC.

Socks are thin, socks are good, socks keep my tires warm - should I get all wool? j/k

Thanks for the input!
