275/55/20 fit perfectly with no rubbing and the speedometer is still accurate since overall diameter is about the same as the 255/60 OEM tires. I bought a set of five 20" take-off wheels on eBay. Probably a good idea to get 5 winter tires since it could be difficult to locate a replacement tire in late winter if you blow out a sidewall on a pothole.
Paul, thanks for details. I appreciate you taking the time to respond.
275/55 R20 fits perfect and you get a lot more choices. I got the Blizzaks in that size and I also looked at the Michelin X-ice but they did not have the Michelins in stock. Summer is the best time to buy snow tires.
Does it change the handling of your car? Does it have increased levels of wind noise?
Which brand is it?
Hey@msgm1 , so sorry to have taken a year to reply. It's not my normal style to start a thread and then abandon it!
My roof tent is an AutoHome Columbus. This is the same tent Land Rover used to sell as it's official accessory, but mine is actually one size bigger than the official LR tent, and I bought it a few years before I owned my Defender.
I had no idea this thread had continued significantly beyond when I started it (I guess I need to subscribe and select for notifications or something....)
I eventually gave up trying to find snow tires at all last year. Our Michigan winter turned out to be very mild, so I was able to easily get by with my KO2's all winter. I have re-booted the search this winter, however, since we've already had some significant snow events and my BFG KO2's, although basically competent, were understeering in the slippery conditions. It's a recipe for ending up in a ditch -- no thanks.
I'll come back and report my snow tire findings, I promise!
Well, if I had a nickel for every time I ended up with Blizzaks after considering other winter tires, I'd probably have about 50 cents. Just got back from the shop and already can't believe how well these are performing on snow covered roads versus the KO2's.
Thanks again to everyone who offered their insights, and I'm sorry I lost track of my own thread.
I know there are a few different winter tire threads, so not sure if this has already been stated. But for you fellow 19inchers, Michelin X-ice Snow is now available in 255/65/19. I know Tire Rack and Costco carry this size. And has been recommended when it comes to Tire Rack, definitely email them if you have questions and/or if the tire size isn't appearing on their website. Also, per Tire Rack, the Pirelli Scorpion Winter 2 is also supposed to be available in 255/65/19, but the last time I checked, they hadn't received yet. I'll be ordering my winter setup shortly and am going with the Michelin tires.

Michelin X-Ice Snow SUV is now available in 255/60/20 also. I'm a long-term Nokian winter tire fan but just bought a set of the Michelin X-Ice since a narrower tire works better in snow. Having driven them through one snowstorm, they are excellent. While most cars were crawling along in the 2 tire tracks in the right lane, I was able to confidently go 50 mph in the unplowed left lane with zero slippage. Of course the Defender AWD system with snow mode deserves much of the credit as well.

I don't have the X-Ice on my Defender yet (getting after the holidays), but I've posted before that I have them on my F Pace and they are incredible in the snow
