So - JLR dealer repaired my “sticky rear drivers side door” twice under warranty, and as soon as the warranty ran out, this trim piece started coming adrift. Again. Somewhat comical because the last repair was August 2024. That’s ... 5-6 months ago?
The net result of this trim piece coming off is that it once again, made the bloody door hard to open. because the rubber seal on the door gets caught on the glass/signature square on the rear quarter.
Here you can see it coming off the car. It was making a noise when the door was opened.
I thought -- well maybe the dealer didn’t replace this. But the 2023 date code on the part I removed from the car was a pretty good indicator, seeing as my car is a 2020 model year.
So I bought “Appliqué” LR173177 for $79.00 from Landleaping and installed it. First. This piece of trim is only held on my sticky tape. And it has locating pegs. So there’s really no adjustment. It just slides under the rear window edge to the right. Interestingly, I tried closing and opening the door with the trim piece entirely removed. The rubber on the door completely catches on the glass and the door binds. So it does indeed serve a purpose.
I cleaned the area with alcohol. And I used 3M adhesion promoter to ensure a good bond for this sticky tape. It did not come with the adhesion promoter 3M 4296. I had this on hand from another project. Bought it on Amazon.
Most of the tape came off cleanly, but obvious to remove what remained...
We shall see....the finished product. Looks good as new. 3rd time this has been replaced now on my car.
Very simple project. I waited until it was somewhat warm out and used adhesion promoter so it has a chance of sticking.

I’d wager the adhesion promoter will make the difference and that it wasn’t used in past repairs.
