I live in nyc and I park on the street during the day, I think the rear mounted spare actually helps, it keeps other cars a good distance away, and I have it in off-road height all the time

Ya know we had a flat the other day in the D110 (19" wheel) and I could swear when I put the flat in the rear compartment that it didn't fit lying down, it was leaning at an angle.

Now our second row slides front to back and I didn't think of checking where it was, maybe it was full back.

But I'm wondering how awkward it might be to carry a full size spare in the cargo area all the time, especially on say a D90.

It would be very smelly. Rubber puts off quite an unpleasant odor in a closed space.

Not forever. Back in the 00's I had a Jeep Cherokee (XJ) and the spare on those mounted inside the cargo area. I don't recall it ever being an issue.

Can the spare fit behind the back seat of the new 90?

Don’t think you’d be able to even get one of those thin “spare only” tires that come with some cars in the boot of a 90...

I can't say as I've got a 110.

I guess it depends on how wide is the tire. And even then you'd have to stand it up so you'd need to secure it to keep it from rolling back and forth.
