Switching from X to V8
#12
I'm trading in a 2022 X5 M50i for another P400 Defender. The X5 was fun, and I think what I liked best about it was the V8. We needed another car quickly and was able to order the X5 and get it in 4 weeks. But going into winter the Defender is just a better vehicle. So many things missing on the X5...air suspension for ground clearance in deep snow, fog lights, snow mode, locking diffs if stuck, heated windshield, headlight washers, spare tire & more. I can see where a V8 Defender is a perfect vehicle.

I was in the same dilemma this week after test driving the 110 V8 - its raw power and sound is enough to drive anyone to part with $120K - however, 9mpg? Not a chance. I went with a 23.5MY P400X - I already have a 21MY 110 P400SE and the engine is more than poky enough for me - without trying to race every Durango that wants a bite......

Just joined this forum. I had a P400X Carpathian grey (at sticker) for my wife, and after a year sold it and was able to get a CE V8 (at sticker) with full black leather interior not felt. Have had V8 for a month now. Everyone said you would feel a huge difference in not just power but that it was such a better built vehicle and much stronger. It took me a few weeks of driving them back to back before I could really tell. That is more of a compliment to the 6cyl. The defender overall is by far the strongest most rugged feeling chasis I have experienced. Its a special and unique experience. The V8 rumble is nice, but as many reviews have stated, it could be much much better. The power is nice and made since the suspension and antirollbar set up insulates you more, I don't feel it being that much quicker than the 6cyl.
One thing I am very interested in, is getting a ecu tune and less restrictive exhaust. Cant really find anything local, its all in England. And no one is talking about ecu tune. I am hesitant to do it if it will cause problems.
I also have a fully built 2018 Raptor that I just parked and left at my home in Park City along with a off-road build Ford Expedition.

I paid $85K, drove it for 7 months & 9000 miles and got $80K in trade value. Seemed fair and I'm sure it helped that the Land Rover dealer I traded it into also owns a BMW dealership. It was for sale on the BWM dealer website the next day.
But it was an odd situation...I went to order the Defender last September and they told me they would take the X5 that day at $80K but closer to $70K when my Defender arrives in February. So I cleaned out all my stuff from the X5, put it in a shopping bag and had their runner drive me home that day. I handed him the second key fob and title when I got home and it was gone. With kids away at college we have an extra car so I was willing to do that deal.

I was originally torn between the 110 X and the V8, but I didn't want to deal with paying over sticker for the V8 (was able to get the X @ MSRP) or waiting close to a year for an order. So, I placed an order for a 110X in October, and it is scheduled to be delivered by the end of February. But, I haven't been able to completely shake the idea of the V8, and have been keeping an eye on the inventory in my area. I know I would be happy with the X, but I figured if the perfect V8 popped up at a good price, I'd take a look. Well, this week I found a Yulong White (2nd favorite color) V8 in stock and advertised at MSRP. I had a couple conversations with the sales manager, and will be taking a look at the truck tomorrow. I'm feeling pretty certain I'll move forward with this one and cancel the order for the X.
The only negatives with the V8 is that there are a few small options I wouldn't have chosen, like rear seat convenience pack, spare wheel cover and black 22" wheels. But, I figure it will be pretty easy to swap for grey 20" wheels and just remove or sell the other parts. However, a positive with the V8 is that it DOES have all the USB-C ports and the 700W surround sound system.
