Just an update, it looks like Alex is OK, he managed to escape with his family today and has crossed the border.

 

About the wooden insert; can just use a gun cleaning mat. They come in a bunch of sizes and they also make exceptional mouse pads for multiple monitor set-ups.

I'm not sure if he has instagram or anything public. I messaged him on Facebook a few days ago with no response. Today however he let me know the news above which is a relief. I can't imagine how many crazy stories are happening right now.

 

Any idea how did he get out with them banning any males 18 to 60 from leaving?

There's zero judgement here. I would want to be in both places so badly. I have no idea how I'd make that decision and hope I never have to.

He's a good man for saving his family.

 

Apparently it happened "in the middle of the night" even with those rules in place, so my guess is that there is some form of flexibility. Given some of the images/videos I've seen from the border, this seems to support the case. I agree.. extremely difficult decision to make as a family man.
