Has anyone looked at the Racechip or Velocity AP options? All three brands (TDI, Racechip and Velocity) offer somewhat similar performance improvements, but the pricing varies significantly...

they are all basically the same tuner boxes with possibly a slightly different tune. i started this Thread many years ago and have the TDI still. i would of went Race chip if it was available at the time. i have ran race chip on multiple cars and worked with their development team. No complaints about the TDI

my warranty is up and will end up going with new pulleys and full ECU tune with Velocity

I don't know about RaceChip and TDI and if they are more generic. But Velocity AP is fully customized and created specifically for the JLR engines. I am active on the Jag boards and lots of people have the VAP tune, many have done the pulleys too. It's highly customizable on the JLR engines - power available, pulleys, more pops and burbles, speed limiter etc.
I assume your V8 is the Jaguar AJ133 engine (the 5.0 V8 SC). The octa uses the BMW 4.4 twin turbo which is totally different

If you're interested in seeing more on Velocity AP, worth a look at the JaguarForums site to see experience of others. Chris at VAP is an active poster too (they are a forum sponsor)
The Defender V8 is a lower power output than in the standard Jag form (I have an F Type SVR with that engine that was 575hp from factory for example)

Worth doing some deep research and being confident that whoever you go with has tuned many of that specific engine and understands the parameters well!

Let us know how you get on

[QUOTE=Jrunr619;848978]I agree that it’s easy to make more power on boosted engines.

I tried to look up racechip today, and they don’t have any offerings for the Defender…

Manhart Tuning has a plug and play they say created over 100 HP on the P400 - but it’s $2500!! 😬😬[/QUOTE

manhart is a rip off and sake piggy backs everyone else is selling

i actually bought the TDI tune for old p400 but they don’t ship to CA and had to reroute to another state. by the time i got it i had traded the p400 for the v8. TDI reprogrammed the tuner and i bought a new cable

i believe you will more than happy with the TDI on a p400

i felt a noticeable difference on my v8 but superchargers don’t increase power as much compared to turbo . you really need a pulley and tune
