Things I wish the Defender had.
I love the defender, but there are some small things I wish that JLR did. Let me know if there's anything you would want to see.
- I'd like a button on the tailgate to lock the vehicle, like the other door handles. There are times when done driving and I need to get something out of the trunk, then I want to lock it and have to go to one of the handles or the FOB. It would be nice to just click the button on the back door handle.
- I'd like to have a door over the space above the glove box, so it would be a second compartment for stuff. I know that the older defenders had this and it's tradition, but i hate clutter and would like to see something similar to the sports - a compartment that we can store items, without having to see them.
- I shouldn't have to buy a piece of molded plastic to get a storage tray in the center console - Land Rover should design that area better so it has the tray there and we can access the storage underneath better. Maybe it's a door that flips up, like the center console...but, it's annoying to try and reach items that are stuck under in that space under the cup holders.

If they're minor, then they should be easy to implement. But, I don't think the center console design is minor. It's a really poorly laid out design and inconvenient to use.

2 things would make camping in the Defender better:
1) An interior door release/lock/unlock switch set for the inside of the rear hatch. Yes, PowerfulUK does offer a nice DIY switch/wiring harness that you can add this feature w/o cutting into the factory wiring, but significant disassembly is required and it would be nice if LR would just build it in. I do suspect that for liability or some country having a regulation prohibiting a feature like this is why it isn't implemented stock.
2) A low power mode that can be toggled on/off so that the whole Privi Infotainment system doesn't power up as soon as a door is opened to save battery life. One really shouldn't have to go an install a dual battery system just to be able to do a camp out w/o draining the battery so easily.
3) Pre-wired accessory switches and switched power take off points around the car and outside the car/on the roof like the Bronco offers.
And a non-overhanding enhancement:
4) Brighter reverse lamps so that you don't have to install an after market one to have decent illumination when backing up.
