I have the factory hitch and rented a U-Haul trailer. The slots on the hitch were too small for the chains to connect. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you solve it? Thanks!

Had the same problem. Here's another solution. I now keep two of them with me in the vehicle.


The U-Haul guy in Missoula actually gave them to me to keep after a rental.

I use hammer locks rated at 8k.

 

Great idea @DefenderSISU . Why did you go with the 3/8" version? When I searched for Hammerlocks I see that they come in many sizes: 3/8, 1/2, 5/8. Was that the only size that fit or were they rated for what you wanted to do? Do you know if the larger sizes would fit? Thanks.

 

Hammer locks: 3 times the price of a similarly rated S-hook with all the fun of additional complexity.
