Default Unexpected Recalls

I took my truck in to have the rear recovery hooks installed* and they also performed two recalls I was unaware of: the coolant expansion tank “renewal” and an ABS module software update.

* I would have installed them myself but that would have meant taking off the mud flaps I had just installed. Order of operation is important, and clearly I did things backwards. Plus I feel like when a vehicle is still under warranty it’s best not to fiddle with things like sensors and cameras and such.

Good point, @Vin . If anyone wants to check for a recall, just enter your VIN into this: https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle

A benefit of the Dealer is that they may have "Service Bulletins" or other repair items that aren't actual Recalls, but the above should tell you about the things officially filed.

On this link you can find only information on safety recalls. If the recall campaign is not linked to safety, it will not be on the website

Good point, @FSB . Maybe this one should be better: https://www.landroverusa.com/ownership/vin-recall.html. It too says "Safety" and "Product" recalls but I expect/hope it should have all the JLR recalls.

And, if you want to see if it has any Service Campaigns, take your VIN to the lower right of this link: https://topix.jaguar.jlrext.com/topi...cle/lookupForm

{Fortunately, mine cleared both!}

Is that link accurate? I ask because it says no campaigns apply to my car, but 2 and a recall and a tsb do apply and have not been done.

Smoked X Taillight recall
Coolant bottle
Front air springs

Got me there, @nashvegas . Those are the "official" land rover pages. The first is their customer facing webpage for customers to find Safety Recalls. It should match the NHTSA one. The second is right out of their TOPiX system which is what all the Dealers use. If you're not getting hits on either one then perhaps JLR engineering, JLR production, JLR marketing, JLR dealers, yada yada yada aren't the only one's messed up<g>. There could be a theme here....

Seriously though, not sure what's telling you that you have those if not from JLR. Can you post it, take pic, post a link, or is it the dealer verbally telling you that all your problems will be solved if you come in?

EDIT: There's differences between Recalls, Service Campaigns, and Technical Service Bulletins (TSB's). A lot of folks (often me) use them the same, but they are different. If a Recall isn't on NHTSA it really isn't a recall. It should also be in the first JLR link above. Service Campaigns are in the second link from TOPiX. For TSB's, you have to have access within TOPiX because they are solutions to specific customer complaints and not something that JLR is required to communicate (Recalls) or is actively managing (Service Campaigns). Think of them as more reactive to customer problems. Those you will only be able to look up if you have access to the bowels of TOPiX and that is EXPENSIVE. Hope that helped a little.

Neither of those looks like recalls. TSBs are not recalls.
