V8 Carpathian Edition Inbound
Registered to update here. Been lurking a long while. I placed an order last Spring at the time of the reveal for the V8 and the CE. All Summer I heard nothing. Emails went unanswered and then two days ago I get an email from the dealer manager that my CE is arriving second week of December. It is in fact a 2023 model year. As far as we can tell it will be one of, if not THE first, carpathian edition vehicles in the U.S. This has been the absolute strangest process I have ever been a part of.
My dealer has always referred to mine as MY ‘22 (no mention of it being a 2023 MY). It will be interesting to see if dates still continue to hold and when MY ‘22/23 ended/began. Fingers crossed for us all…what a long journey it’s been.
I have been lurking here quite a while and this is my first post...I ordered a v8 in March of '21 - Carpathian Grey but not the Carpathia Edition. During the year I had the unfortunate experience of finding out what "unslotted" order means (pro tip - means canceled in JLR speak). Apparently all v8 orders were unslotted and, at the time, word was we would get in line for a '23 model in mid 2022.
This fall, thinking I could not wait until late next year for the vehicle, I put a deposit on a 2022 SQ8 which is slated to be delivered January. Not two weeks after I paid the deposit on the Audi, Land Rover dealer emailed me with the astonishing news that my v8 order was picked up once again by the factory (guess the correct term would be "re-slotted") and my Defender will be built on Nov 19 with a first week January delivery! Dealer also indicated that my order was the only one re-instated - I must be living right.
I will believe it when I see it, but my hopes are again high - system said the unit was built on Nov 18 and moving on to the next step - shipping. Will keep the SQ8 order live, but will drop it if indeed the Defender shows up.

Welp, I made the opening post of this thread 04-06-2021 a few days after ordering the V8 CE.
After all the endless nonsense that we are all familiar with, including JLR purging my order from the system many months ago, it suddenly popped back up the other day with dates.
Build date: 2/4/22
Delivery date: 4/1/22
If it doesn't get delayed again, which is a big if, I will hopefully get it almost a year to the day since ordering it ... we shall see.
On a side note, I tried adding the color matched wheel cover and that would have pushed the build to June for some reason, so you might want to order that after the fact if you really want it rather than make it part of your build.

Hi all, I'm new here -- just joined today -- and my apologies if this is a bad place to ask this question, but have been thinking of getting a Defender 90 since they came out. My local dealer has a V8 Carpathian Edition that's available since the original buyer backed out, and it's spec'ed essentially as I would order it, but I've been told that they're currently charging a $2,500 premium on all in-stock Defenders. Is this a decent deal? Normally I'd scoff at paying over sticker for a car, but it seems that these are fairly hard to come across, and I guess it could beat ordering one and waiting and unknown amount of time for it to come in. On the other hand, I know how dealers can be and I'm not fully up to speed on the Defender market, and I wanted to make sure that I wasn't getting tricked into thinking these are harder to get than they really are, etc. Thanks!
Yes - dealers are selling for mark ups and V8s have been going for a significant premium but I've heard that mostly with the dealer launch stock that came in during the fall.
My dealer is currently $10k over on a Defender V8. If you can get your hands on a 90 V8 for a $2,500 surcharge and you really want it, it's a no brainer.

Most likely not. The Tellurides and their platform mate Hyundai Palisade have been carrying ADM since the whole supply chain thing went wonky. There are just no cars out there of almost any brand, there is 1 new Mazda Miata RF within 300 miles of me for sale. One. Anything even remotely desirable is going to have ADM on it.
