I think the only issue that could cause JLR to stop production once a VIN has been assigned would be the smoked taillights since they can’t sell the car until it’s resolved anyway.

Unless the car falls under the taillight recall (which only applies to the Defender X and V8), its probably a safe bet that it’s enroute. Otherwise, it probably doesn’t matter even if it was built. Because, at this point, it wouldn’t get delivered anytime soon.
Unfortunately it was a X. It’s been sitting in port for weeks. At this point I can only assume it’s going to be held indefinitely. Thank you for the thoughts.

Welp, this isn't great. I have other cars to daily but it sucks for those who are coming off their leases and were counting on the timing of their delivery. I don't even know where you go if you're in that situation. MB, BMW, Cadillac, and most others have a couple of weeks worth of inventory and anything in stock that's half way decent is ADMed to ridiculous levels. So you end up paying extra for something you don't really want or like. I guess one can go slightly used but that market is even more crazy.

Normally I'd pull my order at this point, I did so after six months of getting jerked around by Audi on the Avant ... but I'll just let this order sit there and decide if I want the car if and when LR decides to tell me when it will get to me.

Patience is definitely a virtue when it comes to JLR, especially when they subscribe to the mushroom* approach with their Customers.

I am scheduled to take delivery of my V8 next weekend...its not the Carpathian Edition though. Its black with the 11.4" screen.
It arrived at the port a few days ago so I'm not sure yet if its going to be affected by the recall and have to be repaired before I get it.
I'll update if i actually get it and send pics

Could you share the build date of your vehicle? Thanks!

I hope you do get it, But, it's probably unlikely. All V8's come standard with darkened tail lights. I'd honestly be shocked if it were even actually built on the date given since JLR knew at that time that they would not be able to deliver any car with NAS Darkened Tail Lights to a customer by law. It would be strange for them to acknowledge the problem by issuing a voluntary safety recall and then turn around and continue to build it with the same malfunctioning components. They technically should have halted production when they issued the recall. I'm not saying it can't happen but I would go ahead and brace yourself for a long wait. Honestly, I'm almost glad they didn't build my order. Otherwise, it would be sitting at port indefinitely waiting for some mechanic to completely invade the entire taillight assembly and reconstruct it.

I hope I'm wrong. Because I'd really like to hear that they successfully found a workaround like using the ROW variant of the taillight or found some other simple fix.

So has anyone figured out why they can't use ROW tinted tails on NAS cars?

Sorry to say it, but I think you're in for a long wait. I also had a V8 originally scheduled for delivery on July 9. My dealer gave me the VIN and ship's name. The ship arrived June 22. The next thing I heard was delivery was moved up to July 2 - needless to say, I was very excited, although I was following along on this forum and worried about the smoked lights (kind of hoping it would sneak through). On July 5 my dealer called to tell me the car was being held at the port - since it was one of the first V8s in the US he thought it could be a customs issue. Then last week I got the call that said it was being held indefinitely, although they were hoping for delivery at the end of August. My dealer still does not have an answer for me as to why it is being held. Having read some of the posts on here, I am just hoping that the car is actually built and here, but who knows.
