[QUOTE=D110Xd;913453]Finally got my plates from the DMV so I could update my license plate.

How do you like the Reviver electronic license plates?
How long did those take?

I like the e-plate. I had it on my Tesla and first purchased the Reviver plate in 2020. When I sold my Tesla in April 2024, I removed it knowing I would have it installed on the Defender when it arrived. I eventually transferred it to the Defender when I bought it in July. LR Riverside sells the Reviver plates, so they were quite familiar with the transfer process. They installed the plate, called Reviver to get the old plate number from the Tesla removed, and had the temporary plate for the Defender transferred over. When I received the sequential plates from DMV it was an easy process to transfer myself, as well as the personalized plates once those came in.

i requested about 6 or 7 customized banners which can be displayed at the bottom of the plate in place of the url for CA DMV. Five of them have been approved, however I only use one of them which is the banner that displays the names of my dogs.

Just out of curiosity, how does that e-plate work? Is it plugged in somewhere? Is it battery-operated? Solar? Don't get me wrong, its definitely cool for sure, but also makes me wonder why make something complicated in place of literally the most basic thing - a piece of stamped aluminum.

There are two types, one is hardwired and the other is battery operated. Mine is battery operated as I didn’t want to mess with the wiring in the Tesla, which is what I had when I bought it. I also wouldn’t want to mess with the wiring in my Land Rover. The battery lasts 5+ years. The display uses similar tech as a kindle with the e-ink. If the battery goes dead the display will still show the plate number. You just won’t be able to update the registration, change the banner, etc. Reviver will send a replacement plate for you to swap out when the battery dies.

I’ve had my plate for 4+ years and the battery status still shows as healthy on it.

if the plate is detached the display shows DETACHED on it and you have to use the app to reinstall it so it removes DETACHED. Also if the car is stolen you can report stolen in the app and the plate will display STOLEN on it.

Thank you for the info.
Few more questions - do you have to get two plates (one for the front) or just one for the back.
The California DMV personalized plate process - is it quicker for the Reviver compared to the stamped aluminum plate?

Also, does it connect to the internet and transmit any driving information like location, speed, etc?

Few more questions - do you have to get two plates (one for the front) or just one for the back. - Legally in California you have to have a front plate. When I bought my V8 in July, I told the dealer not to install the front plate bracket. LR Riverside had me sign a form relieving them of liability for not installing it and stating I will have it installed myself. Obviously I never installed the front plate bracket as I like the cleaner look and will take my chances.

The California DMV personalized plate process - is it quicker for the Reviver compared to the stamped aluminum plate? - I originally bought my Reviver plate in 2021 when I had my Tesla. At that time I already had my metal plates. I removed the plate from my Tesla and brought it with me to the dealer when I bought the V8. LR Riverside sells Reviver plates so they were familiar with the process. I had temporary plates assigned at purchase so LR Riverside contacted Reviver. Gave them the info of my vehicle. We uploaded a copy of the DMV temporary registration and a picture of the temporary plates to the Reviver app. It takes a couple hours for the update to get approved. By the time the temp registration was approved, I had gone back to the office as they were prepping the vehicle and installing the mud flaps and side steps. They also installed the Reviver plate for me. The temp registration won't upload until I was with the vehicle as it transmits from the app on your phone via Bluetooth to the plate. When they delivered the vehicle a couple days later, the Tesla Registration and Plate Detached was on the vehicle still because I wasn't around to update the approved temp info prior to delivery. I used the app to update the approved temp info to the Reviver plate once the delivery guy left. When I got my sequential plates, I uploaded the registration and a picture of the sequential plate to the Reviver app. Within a couple hours it was approved and I was able to change the Reviver plate from temporary registration to the sequential registration using the app via Bluetooth. When I got my personalized plate I did the same process and within hours was able to change the Reviver to the personalized plate.

Also, does it connect to the internet and transmit any driving information like location, speed, etc? I am not sure if the plate shares location with Reviver. I do know if the plate is removed it transmits to Reviver using cell towers and the plate is shown as detached on the Reviver and an alert shows up in the app. If your vehicle is stolen you can use the Reviver app to report it as stolen and it will transmit to the plate using cell towers changing the plate to displace in big bold font STOLEN or something to that effect.

Reviver will only give you one plate for the rear. - Reviver will only provide the rear plate. Reviver will also give you a letter to keep in your glovebox stating you are participating in a pilot program in California authorized by the DMV. You are also legally required to keep the metal plate with current stickers on the plate with the vehicle, so mine is in the boot area in the underfloor storage. Obviously you will need to keep the paper registration with the vehicle at all times.

Here are some pictures showing: PLATE DETACHED, Delivery day with Tesla registration and plate detached displayed, Temporary Registration Number (bad angle but only pic I can find with the Temporary Plate Registration displayed), Sequential Plate Number, and personalized plate number, and some screen shots of the app. I've also added my dogs' names to display on the banner. You can have all sorts of preapproved banners or create your own and submit for approval. I have my business name approved and I also have V8 Carpathian Edition approved as banners I can change it to. You can see California changes on the plate as it is updated. I have Black and Yellow plates for the personalized V8 L663 plate, so CALIFORNIA as displayed on the Reviver changes from cursive font like they are on White plates to standard classic font on the Black and Yellow plates. You can also change the font of the banners.

It's different and not for everyone. I'm kind of a techy nerd so I like that kind of stuff.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Plate Detached - Tesla registration number and the plate displayed detached once it was removed from the vehicle and an alert showed up in the app notifying me it was detached.
