Odd warm day here so I washed the thick layer of road salt off the Defender, changed the oil and hopefully fixed the dashboard squeaking under the left air vent. For this one you need to remove the left grab handle again. Thankfully it's easy with the exposed screws. Look for a small black torx screw that comes in from the left into the top rounded leather piece that runs across the top of the dash. Then above the left storage tray is a black plastic piece. Gently pull down on the left edge of it to release 2 spring clips.
You will see another black torx screw that goes straight up into the round leather piece. To loosen it, I put the torx bit into a 1/4" drive socket. Just need to loosen it a little and then you can then turn it and remove it with your fingers. Try not to deform the black plastic piece too much when reaching in to take out that screw. Then I cut and placed adhesive felt pieces along the back of the rounded trim piece. Then reverse all the steps and put it back together.

Seems a lot of us have the squeaking/rattling from the weather stripping on all windows. How was this addressed either at home or by dealer? It’s driving me nuts 🥜

thanks!

Clean the rubber gasket with isopropyl alcohol. Then apply Honda Shin-Etsu grease:

Amazon Amazon

Same silicone I used to stop my 1988 Honda Accord sunroof seals from squeaking.

I use Griot's Garage rubber and vinyl dressing on all door seals. The rubber is coated with a release agent when it is molded or extruded and you need to remove that or counter it's effects with a good dressing or lube. You can also use a PTFE dry spray but I really prefer the Griot's product. It can also be used on interior vinyl, tires, and even the gray trim pieces on the exterior.

I've had good luck with Gummi Pflege Stift in the past.

It is very noticeable, even over music etc. and springs up the most when I hit any type of bump, make a turn, or any type of jostling of the vehicle. I have someone coming to my house Monday to show me the ropes of the vehicle and I'll certainly bring it up (#1 on my list since it's slowly driving me insane). I'm crossing my fingers that this is something that can be rectified. I don't know if I can stomach the price of this beast, which is otherwise a DREAM, if there's a noticeable and annoying rattle much worse than I have ever experienced in any other vehicle. I'll take a look at some of the points above to see if I can find a quick fix but I'm not sanguine.
Did you find out what it was? I think I have the same thing, it sounds like a loose screw/marble

depending on what it is. The rattle I had was in the trunk / loadspace.

Remove the hard floor cover. Remove the styrofoam.
when you see the frame of the car — for me it was the black ‘crossbar’ support bar that’s under the rear (2nd) row seats.

note I have a P300 110; so the load space is completely empty for me down there and easy to see the support bar (it’s V shaped.)

when I tapped the left side it sounded sturdy. But when I tapped the right side (banged it with my fist) I heard the rattle. It was a bolt that wasn’t tight enough so the washer rattles between the bolt and the nut.

I had to firmly tighten that bolt and for me that fixed the rattle I had in the boot. Hope that helps identify it if that’s where you are hearing it in the load space.

I’ve got a small rattle coming out of the instrument panel / speedometer area. At least that’s where my ear thinks it’s coming from…

It seems especially noticeable upon using the brakes at low speed.

Does not seem to be aggregated by rough roads either. Weird. Driving me bonkers. Not because I expected silence with a defender, but because I can’t seem to solve it.

you may want to check this thread:

I’ve gone inn3 times to fix it. I’ve isolated mine to a crew by the instrument cluster on the left side. Too tight, get the plastic rattle. Too loose, not fully holding that hard plastic of the panel. Trying to stuff something between those plastics to stop it. And yes only happens at certain flex speeds. Half the time, till I can go back in to fix it, I squeeze the left hard side of the instrument panel and it stops for a bit.
