Stay home and watch on CNN. You can become stuck and add to the problems, you can trash your vehicle (unexpected drop offs under what looks like 1 foot of water), you can "wade" through water, only to find out it is salt water pushed in by storm surge, and it will eat your electrical system, you can find all the roofing tacks blown off with cheap shingles and have four flat tires, and your credit card won't work because the one gas station that still has any fuel can't get their satellite dish data network pointed correctly until a tech comes out.
If you do go, take cash, buy gas whenever you find it, don't get below 1/2 tank. And pack like you are going camping. And take your own beverages and food. And carry a saw and tow strap in case you need to move trees that fall on the road and block you.
They do make hurricane rated glass that will take a 2X4 at 130 mph - but they just don't make Rover windshields out of it.

I worked in Hugo and Andrew, and supported four trips by research teams into Katrina. We used a Suburban 4X4 for that one, good to have a 42 gallon tank. Got a brick thrown thru our windshield while driving in the Lower 9th Ward, residents were not happy.....
