I washed all the plastic with Dawn and a scrub brush. While it was still on the car.. I cheated a bit though. I did it while it was pouring rain outside. I did it about 3 times until the plastic squeaked under my fingers. It also started looking new again. I waited until the rain stopped and dried off all the trim. I sanded it with some 600 grit sand paper just enough for the paint to have something to bite onto. I did NOT sand hard enough to cut through the natural texture of the plastic. I washed it 2 more times with soapy water, dried it and then painted...

I like it; might do it to mine. Also like you're blacked out rims. Another project I'm looking at for the spring (painting or powdercoating the stock rims). alas, any paint projects will have to wait a few weeks in the midwest...

Default One Year Update

To keep this topic up to date, I wanted to give you an update on the Duplicolor Trim Paint project.

The paint fades and chips off. I have tried to sand and touch up areas where the finish comes off to no avail. I would not recommend this product to anyone looking for a Permanent solution to fading plastic trim on their car.

Duplicolor originally told me on the phone that the finish can be waxed to protect it. That was total BS. Waxing it caused it to start chalking up.

Isn't Plasti Dip that rubber stuff you dip tool handles into?
The panels come off pretty easily. There are a number of videos on youtube showing how to remove them. There are a few hidden screws so i wouldn't just try to pop them off without knowing where those hidden screws are. I'll try and find the youtube links
