Too funny: P0734 just came up for me in the last couple days.

I’ve been chasing a misfire and am on my third MAF (what brand did you get?). I’ve also been getting P0501, which that with the P0734 has me concerned on my tranny.

I think I’ll do the PCV mod and see because the smoke test didn’t show any leaks anywhere else.

But now I’m enjoying your thread as there are similarities and misery loves company….

BOSCH 0280218010 from RockAuto https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...t=5128&jsn=837

It seems to have done the trick. I found some info on RR.net regarding the P0734 which lead me to the MAF.

P0501 looks like it could be as simple as a speed sensor since it originates in the ABS system.

Yeah I’m on the second All Makes. I knew better and should gotten the Bosch as I’ve always read they do better. And I read the same thing on P0734, so I’m sticking with the misfire thing as opposed to the transmission.

On P0501, I’ve done a trainload of research and notes on it and I’m not convinced it’s the WSSs. No amigos and 2 new front WSS. TC and all that work perfect (wheel stands and all last time I played for a few minutes). The specifics of the code are in essence the value from the VSS (note the V, not a W) and what SLABS is seeing are implausible.

All I can deduce is the VSS has failed (it’s above the valve body in the trans and I meant to pull that when I did the tranny service, but got busy as usual). Either that or I have a wiring issue. The T case was replaced just prior to me buying it and I’ve thought they must be related. As with everything, it’s just time to diagnose…

The 'self leveling' feature created a situation where the system was overly sensitive to slight movements when parked resulting in it being on the bumps stops every morning. If I pulled the timer relay for the EAS the truck was basically flat from where we left it.

I installed a relay upstream of the timer relay to disable it when the ignition is off.

This solved the overnight sinking problem.

Also created a new grounding point for the aftermarket amplifier (located where the original was) which seems to have chased away the alternator noise. Gotta have good tunes.

Blend motor and fuse box replacement went ok. Was able to fortify some of the mounting points on the gauge/cluster surround and the dash fascia (where the buttons and radio are mounted).

The most difficult part of the job is putting your body in odd positions for minutes at a time to get to places under the dash. It is like an entire day of yoga/pilates. I'm getting too old.

Had catalysts replaced. Thieves stole mine.

Shout out to British Auto Works ( https://britishautoworks.org/ ) for helping organize with insurance and getting CARB compliant cats (NY state now requires it).

Put it on coil springs.

I have been chasing every darn problem and simply spending too much time trying to figure out how to make the EAS reliable. Every three months it was a new issue. Bags, height sensors, self leveling timer, compressor, tapped the valve block, new air lines. Enough was enough. No more waiting for the lights on the dash to stop blinking. No anxiety.

I love the truck MORE now.

I’m really surprised you gave up after all that. However, to your credit, the guys at GBR agree with you. I think the D2 system is just so simple, it seems silly to replace it if you are staying at “normal” heights, but the system seems to have gotten too convoluted for the P38.

Ironically, when we get back and I start on the Giverny Disco, I’m going to convert it back from coils to bags. I got all the parts and another 2” spacer lift, so it should be pretty straight forward.

The truck is at college with my son. He doesn't have the time or patience to put up with finicky EAS systems. Every three months is was something else. It was too stressful.

The one item it didn't replace and probably should have was the pressure switch in the valve block. I have two blocks and it didn't matter with I used and reasoned that it was unlikely that BOTH pressure switches were bad. The compressor ran far too often/long and the final straw was a worn seal between the compressor piston head and the cylinder. It wasn't pumping sufficient air. I swapped in a spare and all was fine.

Still, it was going to happen again unless I figured out the root of that problem and the situation was such that I was just done with it.

Am I a little disappointed that I couldn't completely solve it? Yeah. A little. That is probably more ego than anything else. Admitting defeat is somewhat of a bitter pill.

Now that we have driven it, I can report that the juice is NOT worth the squeeze. Coils are fine and in my opinion, make the handling and steering feel tighter/more modern. The air bags are like sleeping on a water bed versus coils that feel like a good mattress.

I'll have a "for sale" package of the extra valve block (tapped with compression fittings), compressor, and 2 yr old air springs in the marketplace section soon. I need to rebuild the compressor head first.
