97 Discovery XD:
Took the XD for a quick cruise into town to drop off a redbox & to get some fuel last night. While I pumping gas a dude pulled up in a 2017 RRS and asked me if I’d take 6k for my XD. I told him it was my dream vehicle when I was younger & I finally got my hands on one. He handed me a card with his # on it & said it was a sweet ride & to keep me in mind if I needed to sell it.
Of coarse I get home & tell my wife the crazy story & all I got was WHY didn’t you say yes?? Women just don’t get what a classic car is all about lol.

Finally got around to finding spacers for the OEM XD front skid plate. Then I switched out the tiny 3/8 bolts for the bumper/brush guard/skid plate for 7/16 Grade 8 bolts. The previous owner had just installed 2 of the 4 bolts that secure the bumper/brush guard/skid because apparently someone over the years misplaced the spacers. I finally tracked down something that worked perfectly and now it's all nicely secured!
Picked up a P38 120AMP alternator at the local LKQ, and I went from 12.9-13.5v tops to 13.4-14.4v. The refurb that came on my D1 was junky to say the least with a crack in it's case. I also scored a spare TPS sensor. I ordered stuff from Rock Auto (got some STI Spark Plug Wires for 2.90), and I'll be installing all that stuff when I can.
I also got my hands on a spare VSS and it still acts nuts when plugged in and at idle in park. Going to verify all my ECU connectors, and grounds. It runs excellent on the default programming when it's unplugged.

Well yesterday morning I attacked the spark plug wires, spark plugs, and serpentine belt. I'm going to hold off on the coolant hoses as when I was replacing the serpentine belt I noticed a good amount of play on the waterpump pulley when I removed the fan clutch. Got the STI Wires routed nicely after figuring out some of the wire markers for 2/4/6/8 were on the wrong wires and after switching 2 around they were perfect.
Then a good friend of mine stopped by with his 96 SE7 with a 5spd for some electrical gremlins caused by previous owners. We probably removed close to 20ft of wire that had absolutely no purpose at all. They ran wires from the RF headlight all the way to the interior fuse box to bypass the Blue/Orange & Blue/Black wires. Re-connected the original wiring and it worked perfectly. Then I found a Brown/Green from the fuse block under the hood cut and bypassed with a red wire that had about 10 different splices/Butt Connectors on it. It went from the steering column down to the kick panel. I found the Brown/Green wire cut in 3 places. Once again I repaired the original wiring and everything worked as it should (flashers/hazards/Parking Lights/Headlights). Then his HVAC control head had a bad blower slider switch so I replaced that for him (after it took nearly 30min to get a **** off the slider he had that someone had superglued on that was from a FORD). Got that going and then the next mystery was the switch on the dash by the mirrors that had to be flipped for the AC to work. Tracked it down and found the AC Pressure switch connector was unplugged and bypassed.... We left that alone as he'll need a new pressure switch for that to work properly. Next thing was to get the Aux Efan's to run when his AC was running. Whenever you'd cycle the key they'd both run for like 5 seconds and then cut off... The more bad wiring we replaced the longer they'd run... I also replaced his ignition switch with a good spare I had out of an 04 D2 and that made his key SO MUCH smoother and precise. I couldn't ever get the Aux fans to stay on so I'd honestly given up as it was time to cook some steaks and sit back & drink more ice cold ones! We put everything back together and he fired it up. The Aux fans were on and stayed on!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They cut out once and came right back so I'm not sure if his HVAC On/Off button is flaky at the control head or the relay is acting up (trying to actually track down the proper relay is a nightmare in his D1 as they're all pretty much hanging from everywhere under the dash. If I can track it down after reading up on it today I'll add a switch on the aux relay pin 85 and then he can control the fans on whenever the AC isn't on as well.
It was a very productive day on the 96 SE7 for sure!!! Only thing we can think of for all the bad wiring and cuts/splices = his original turn signal stalk was bad...... So instead of replacing it they cut everything to bits and bypassed stuff that wasn't even bad. His OEM wiring loom looks flawless besides all the places they cut it.
